I have it in good confidence that sending books and/or taking books to an employee's house for multiple purposes, logging, pre-screening and grading have been a practice going way back into the days at CGC before CBCS was founded.

And misplacing (loosing) books has happened many times. It is an unfortunate and unacceptable with today's technology.

I would hate to think sober people are the ones grading invisible books, or losing 367 of them.

But now, you add this additional layer of potentially shipping them around extra times without sufficiently tracking them and there's a whole other level of incompetence that seriously undermines their credibility.

If this did all happen, CBCS or Beckett, or whomever needed to say this and be transparent much earlier. They need to come clean now and own up to it. What the hell is wrong with these companies? Is it really that they both got bought out by larger entities and have lost all sense of direction?

I use SR International, almost exclusively, as a facilitator when I need one.

Not only - what you said should happen, but seriously, 367 books - what kind of value just goes away?

IMO - being in Logistics and Material Management for over 30 years - whomever handled this lot last is responsible for all books. If some of those are higher valued, RARE, VHTF, I know for sure....accountability would commence from the CEO down....to find those books.

This is bad....those missing books could have a very large value, and with them being "missing"/"lost"/"misplaced" - the company should honor those values and reimburse accordingly.

I've used them several times and have never had an issue, I have two orders in with them now that I don't think are affected by this but I'm waiting to hear for sure. In his place right now I would be absolutely livid, 300+ books just missing, that's a lot of customer service BS to shovel and none of it anything that he can do anything about.

The part I don't get is who thought it would be a good idea to ship the books to an employee's home and then have those books sent back to CBCS. Shipping isn't free so how much were they losing by shipping it out twice?

Also, it mentioned the customer was going to have someone "reprint" some of the missing books to replace those that are missing. Anyone know what he is referring to?

@50AE_DE I think that some of these lots had some numbered exclusives either from shops or artists that could be replaced buy those same shops/artists

This is something CBCS brought upon themselves. Sending customer's books to an employee's home is not good. The customers are sending CBCS their prized books and they are TRUSTING CBCS to keep the books safe and secure. CBCS is betraying their customer's trust by sending them out to an employee's home.

This isn't a CBCS vs. CGC thing. Its a betraying a customer's trust thing.

I had a friend in college that would convince himself that he isn't that much of a POS by pointing out bums on the street. I'm glad he grew out of that phase. He's a doctor now.

Looks like this thread has been cleaned up per the request of Clan McDonald. It's a bit too late for that. The damage has already been done and screenshots of McDonald's original post are already everywhere.

And I'm sure CGC is dancing in the streets now, but I think they need to remember that what CBCS did, while inexcusable, is still a screw-up at the end of the day. An epic, legendary screw-up, but still a screw-up. In my book, that puts it lower on the Eff-Up ladder than something Highly actionable done On Purpose by someone whose job it was to know from the beginning that what they were doing was not okay.

Sorry, CGC still wins the Eff-Up award, though there is now a runner-up that wasn't there previously.

I'm on the fence about this one. I'd like to know the end result, hopefully within a few weeks, before I form an opinion. As it stands now, 367 books that were in CBCS's possession in July 2021 are missing. I can't imagine that all 367 of them were pressed and if they were submitted at the standard tier, they should've been completed by February to March 2022 (This is when my July 2021 order was completed). If there was no pressing, then what's been going on the last 5 months? Has CBCS been ignoring the issue? Sounds like one of the higher ups already made the mistake of admitting the books left the facility and went to an employee's home out of state (and most likely, never expected McDonald to post this information publicly).

I doubt Clan McDonald would have made this issue public if CBCS hadn't been giving them the runaround for months, providing awful customer service, and doing little to nothing to resolve the issue. I know if I was in business with someone for years and had a positive relationship with them I'd have to be furious with them to make a public post giving so many specific details.

As someone that has been a loyal CBCS customer for about 4 years now, I wouldn't even think to disclose the details of books being sent out of state to an employee's home, unless I never planned on doing business with the company again. I'd expect CBCS to resolve the issue and wouldn't want to damage their brand publicly because I had one bad experience in 4 years. McDonald must be livid with CBCS, and was clearly so angry he exercised incredibly poor judgment when he decided to disclose those details. He's probably calmed down a bit now and realized he shouldn't have done anything more than contacted customer's individually and provided far more limited details, but the damage is already done.

Also, this is far easier said than done. Clan McDonald was going back and forth with CBCS for months while they did nothing to resolve the issue. I can't really blame him for blowing a gasket.

Personally losing the books is god awful. But shipping the books off site is what gets me. I dont see how that was a good idea no matter how you spin it. I know cgc claims 3 graders, per book. I always assumed that it was same at cbcs. If the off site shipping did occur, I don't see how the 3 grader rule applies.

I am reserving judgement until CBCS addresses this.

@Bronte I immediately thought of the 3 grader process as well.

I think I saw that it was for the purpose of logging books into the system. I don't know if that extended to grading as well. Regardless, it's still an epic screw-up that should never have happened because shipping other people's valuables around the country needlessly while you're a custodian for those valuables is beyond unwise.
