Will CBCS be there this year? It's listed on BCC website but isn't posted in the events section and if so, does anyone know if they will be doing On-site grading there?

I don't think they do onsite grading outside of Dallas, and they get yelled at when they do it.

Yes we will be at Baltimore Comic Con. No on-site grading outside of Dallas until we get turnaround times under control. Baltimore is one of my very favorite shows. I've not been since 2019. I'll try to go next year. |

Would be great if CBCS would do that... |

If you are interested in a "very light" version of what you ask, CGC with Matt Nelso has posted up three videos with a bit of information about aspects of grading. Just go to YouTube and search on "CGC Grading videos". |

It's kept a mystery because these grading companies want you to believe they know something more; or have more tools than an experienced hobbyist. If you keep the mystery alive, keep the narrative that only the experts are trained to grade, it keeps that part of the hobby alive. And alive it is |

Quote:Originally Posted by multi007 The problem would be - if grading companies showed in great detail - how they grade is this: With published guidelines, the grading companies would be subject to constant lawyering from people submitting books about the assigned grade. "You said in this video or this page that a defect like this would get a grade of...." So essentially TAT's would double -- or more - as graders spent much of their time defending the grades assigned. Instead of grading the next book in line. It's not perfect. But neither are umpires at baseball games. Someone has to call balls and strikes, safe and out. Otherwise nothing ever gets done except arguing. |

As Baltimore approaches, I have to ask myself...why the *$&@# are my books from last year's con still in "processing" hell? I know this for a fact, I will not be sending in another 50 this year. The books aren't even going for pressing!! I believe the other team may be getting my attention and money this year. I hate to speak against a company that I love, but COME ON!

Edit: Just checked my cbcs order history page...I paid $25 for grading (dealer account) + $8 for fast tracking. S/H to my address was $23. Can't recall what tier it was but I dunno, I've never had CBCS take nearly that long to grade my books. Only time I got stuck holding the bag with a 5 month TAT was a sub to CGC via modern economy in like 2015...learned my lession. Fast track everything. Oh, and FWIW... I'll be subbing books to CGC and to CBCS at Baltimore. |

Quote:Originally Posted by Batman79 Depending on what tier you use, things might not be any better at CGC. The Economy tier at CGC - the least expensive tier for books published before 1975 - is listed by CGC as 233 business days. That 11 months give or take a week. And that's about how long the least expensive tiers at CBCS are taking. I have books at both CGC and CBCS that were received late September 2021 that are not done. The only REAL difference on the least expensive tiers between CGC and CBCS is modern. CGC has always given a higher priority to Modern tier vs Economy. CBCS has not. Least expensive is slow at CBCS, regardless of when it was published. CGC least expensive is slow if books published before 1975. If one cares about how long it takes, pay more and get faster. If price is paramount, go cheap and slow. |

I'll be at baltimore this year as well, already have too long of a list of books to submit and for witnessed sigs lol. Was a shame romita jr canceled as I picked up an asm 238 almost specifically for him and janson to sign, but shortly after that I was offered a nice minty raw thor 337 plus some other books in trade for it...was worth a good bit more than my 238 lol
