The opening message on the main page above the listings really inspires buyer confidence:

You will need to sign up and be approved to bid

Seems like a ten year old texting. No red flags whatsoever.

Issues that need to be fixed:

1) No way to submit anything. No link to submission process or to a submission form.

2) Contact Us form says "reach out to us with any comments or questions" but there is no field to type a comment or question into.

3) They don't provide an email address to contact them

4) There's a button to Sign Up but it does nothing.

5) There's a button to post an item. Doesn't do anything.

6) No company individuals named on the site.

7) They do have a street address, so you could write them a letter. But you have to look up the Postal Code elsewhere because they don't provide it.

8) They do coin grading and describe the case but the picture is of a slabbed comic.

9) Ditto for the Card Grading page.

They have a lot of work to do on their site if they want to be taken seriously.

lol...it's in Vancouver!! gonna say a fake service to launder money for 'out of town' person or persons or gangs...since they can no longer buy a condo in cash and flip it in a shot period of time!

Seriously. Totally shell business for laundering haha.

This place??? Canada's largest auction house!!!????

Shockingly they have 3 BBB complaints in the last year and some really fun Google Reviews!!

Stay away from Canuck Auctions!!!

Probably stay away from GCG!!! - seems super shady

It literally looks like a boutique store with some rental apartments above. I think it’s safe to say if you send your books there you will be waiting longer than CBCS. 😁

There is definitely something fishy going on. If you google canuckauctions.com you will find an address of 1726 Commercial Drive. However, if you look at the picture for the storefront the number on the door is 1303. Googling canuckauctions and 1303 shows an old yellow pages entry for this business. Looking at 1303 Commercial Drive on google maps does show this as a real storefront as of May 2019, but by December 2020 it was clearly for rent. Maybe they did just move and went online without a real store front.

Malwarebytes doesn't want to let me see the canuckauctions website.

Google reviews are pretty bad.

The kicker in all of it. The address shown on the GCG website just happens to be the same as the address for canuckauctions.

I am sure there is more stink on these two "businesses", but that is what I see right now.

I cannot imagine that CGC will not object to GCG being used. PGX started out as CCG and got a letter from the attorneys to stop. CGC has a reasonable argument that the name is deliberately close and intended to cause confusion.

I just noticed the funniest part of their graded comics...look at the sample comics below. It appears to me that they are taking bagged comics and just laying them on top of a plastic case of some sort. I assume they are doing something similar with the labels. Zoom in and tell me if I am wrong.

Seriously, this is something that could screw people who don't know any better over. Should this be reported?

@Byrdibyrd bless your heart, but I think you worry too much about the newbie who's looking to out-clever the rest of us and gets screwed in the process.

There's a part of me that wants to protect the newbie, that's true, but there's also the part of me that wants to hammer some douchebags into the dirt until they scream for their mamas.

The registration for the website does not necessarily mean anything; that’s just who registered the domain, which could be a company who built the site in the first place.

Over the past several years I!ve bought many comics and various Memorabilia from Canuck Auctions. I think their claim to being Canada's largest Memorabilia and Collectibles Auction house is wishful thinking. It's a bit of a rinky dink business, but I haven't had any problems that couldn't be resolved amicably. They've been eager to correct errors. I would recommend giving them a try.

@Ebaymafia you seem to be forgetting that @Byrdibyrd is ruthless when it comes to bad guys and although I forget the post, I recall her wanting to take out an entire family tree. Maybe it was due to animal cruelty.

Here it is:

@flanders
There are fewer things that get me boiling faster than animal cruelty. We don't need folks who find amusement in that. Can't say I don't feel satisfaction when abusers get what's coming to 'em.

Based on their reviews and the fact that they appear to be hosting an auction for products that don't exist, I would stop bidding with them and certainly would never create an account and provide them my banking/paypal/credit card info.

This is true. After I posted my last message it occurred to me that it might just be a case of offshoring web development. I jumped to the ´legitimate small business hacked by offshore scammer trying to exploit established web presence to scam people’ conclusion.

Given Caffeine Kids comments I’ll assume they are a real business, but their graded comics are definitely shady business.

Given their close physical proximity to each other, I am under the impression that the auction house and the grading company have a business connection as well. In any case, the grading side of things is certainly off to a rocky start . They should have put up at least a professional level website before selling graded products.

Even if a perfect website, legit operation and no auction house association, I’d have zero interest in submitting to them. I will submit to CGC or CBCS only.

The amount of reputational capital required to pique my interest in submitting elsewhere is extremely high.

MCS with Steve, yes.

Almost anywhere else, no.

Sure, if I saw a major auditing firm enter the market and they were staking their reputation, absolutely. Still would require then to invest big $.

The value of the service is not some stupid plastic and labels, or even a reasonably accurate grade.

It is continuity in operation or reputation, brand, etc.

I'd be very interested to see a serious candidate for another third-party grader enter the market, but it'll take more than nice-looking labels and a dodgy website before I'll submit anything at all.

There will never be a "legit" 3rd party grader. Soon as an upstart begins, CBCS and CGC forums riddle them with bullets. Given the glaring issues with both established companies, it takes a lot of nerve to cast aspersions at new businesses.

Midwest Comic Grading will be the future of third party grading.
