Can a company faceplant more than DC and still survive? I'm guessing the test screenings looked like that disaster of a Batwoman tv show they aired a few years ago. Like we needed more of that? At least they are providing us all some humor albeit inadvertently. Maybe Image needs a movie studio now to compete with the MCU/DCEU crapfest. |

I have my own theory about what DC is doing under the new management. I think they want what Marvel has and they figure the best way to do that is to work with Marvel. That involves a severe reworking of their major arc plan and is leading to lots of projects being scrapped for no apparent reason. I bet meetings with Fiege have already happened. I bet the next set of phases 7-9 is going to be a crossover event. phase 6 is going to end however it ends and then there will be 1 post credit scene that will blow everyone's mind. a multiverse portal opens up and (Cavill) Superman is there on the other side, looking right through it at everyone. Zoom in on supes and fade to black. you heard it here first! |

An article I read had the opinion (so take with a grain of salt) that the movie was made for streaming and priced as such, but the new ownership wants to put the movies in theaters and wants a budget to match. So apparently they decided that it was better to write the whole movie off than put out something underwhelming.

More details on the decision were provided yesterday during their earnings call (stock tanked today). Takeaways (paraphrased): * 10 year plan to build and invest in DC * Cited MCU structure as blueprint * Batgirl didn’t fit the requirements (quality/blockbuster/new expectations etc) * Flash, Aquaman, Black Adam, Shazam “excellent films” and clearly not axed * Stock tanked back to where it was a month or two ago, as Warner’s saying they are going to spend big on building quality programming The CEO’s current pay package grabbed headlines btw. $250m - noice. The key piece is $200+m needs them to double+ their share price to be worth anything. That will motivate someone haha. |

I don't think Tec 359 prices will drop much. If anything, this has people talking about Batgirl possibly more than if the movie had been released. Batman #126 however? ...Well, I wish I had traded for Batman 227 when someone offered that to me.

You can copy the concept but action it differently - could still go gritty more adult Snyder style Universe but link everything - shocking that no one at WB/DC could figure it out I have zero confidence that they can execute it correctly - they basically have to start from scratch? Need intro projects for characters before a team event - your pick of JLA baddie (not Starro!) then more characters introduced for massive Crisis movie(s) The timeline no-longer works for the current cast - they will be too old to carry that style of universe build - they may release Flash but that actor needs to be dropped as does the character development - want a young A-hole flash - fine... use Impulse, leave Barry and Wally alone To really differentiate themselves they could (but won't) go to magic etc. Swamp Thing Constantine Dr. Fate Zatanna Deadman The Question Phantom Stranger hell - Animal Man or Shade the Changing (Person)!!! They don't have the vision or talent to pull together what in my view are better characters than the MCU |

I don’t think they intend to replicate all aspects of the MCU. I sure hope not given quality erosion to the garbage today. If I am reading between the lines correctly, they will have a central vision but more distributed creative execution. WB’s biggest advantage lately has been director enthusiasm and independence. You can set parameters and lead without dictating details. The greatest bands had a central vision but creative contribution of all members (think Pink Floyd with vs without Waters). The other advantage has been quality. The quality of DC movies lately has surpassed Disney/MCU - by a wide margin. I have no doubt Disney would have released Batgirl - if only because of optics. Quality be damned. The latest moves reinforce the real value new management sees in DC IP. That is very, very encouraging for its medium-to-long-term success. |

@EbayMafia exactly. What looks like a bad decision today will be viewed in the future as disciplined and laying the groundwork. The tax write-off value is not insignificant and many people don’t understand how much $ goes into post-production marketing. If it isn’t viewed as helping reduce streaming churn (ie if it sucks) it adds nothing there either except diluting a phenomenal brand (HBO). Edit: Netflix’s content approach is the $hotgun approach. Blasting $ everywhere to hide lack of licensed content. 95% garbage with some gems. It gets expensive as they are finding out. WB is motivated to attract customers who are deciding between options. It looks like they are going to invest in core quality and some core IP (DC). I know on my list my HBO Max is second only to Amazon as a definite keeper. |

@Davethebrave oh 100% no need to replicate..but maybe use a similar frame work in that potentially it's better to introduce characters in own movies or other projects (and not just little cameos) before slamming them together in a team movie or make up your mind if all the characters exist in the same universe - DC was waffling on that before Justice League is a classic example of where they went wrong - Flash and Fishboy only had a cameo or two nothing on Cyborg - Aquamans stand alone film was released after the team event Just sayin... might have made more sense for Fishboy movie first and if not Flash or Cyborg movies then actual supporting roles in a prior film so the whole 'who the hell is this?' doesn't take away from your team movie... idk...I'm probably wrong... but it just seemed like it was all executed poorly |

@KatKomics no argument here. Lots of missteps. I’d still argue that the best DC movies of the past 3 or 4 years are better than the best Marvel movies. But the whole “system” that pulls people into theaters was masterfully executed at Disney and completely botched by DC.

My wife mentioned the new Sandman series to me. She said she heard good things. Crazy that HBO / WB owns and makes the show but it’s on Netflix lol. I know why but I still cannot see it being a good decision (bidding / platform approach). Of course easily blamed on prior management haha. |

If you do a Google search, the rumors are going around now that the new batgirl movie was way too “woke”. Of course that’s only if you believe the rumors… So the studio head canceled it outright |

The Pattinson Batman movie seemed to want the viewer to descend into a world of horror with its creepiness. While I doubt it would happen, the next logical step is to have Solomon Grundy show up as the villain in the next Batman movie. That would cause Showcase 55 to explode in value. Few can afford a copy of All-American Comics #61.
