According to Rotten Tomatoes the upcoming Batgirl movie with Brendan Fraser and Michael Keaton is cancelled. I wonder if the same will happen with The Flash?

My first thought is that maybe Flash is getting cancelled due to Ezra Miller's antics and that Batgirl didn't make sense without it. And maybe wasn't any good anyway.

Personally think they should cancel The Flash and lock that guy up. Other people have been canceled for less

The controversial owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, Donald Sterling, would often put out press releases announcing that he was going to build a hospital for poor people, or create a Malibu retreat for under-privileged children. He would get a P.R. boost and 5 years later it would be revealed that no property had been purchased and no money had been spent. As much as I believe in the potential of the DCU, I feel like this is a part of their game plan in trying to keep up with the MCU. They announce all kinds of B and C list stuff that reasonable people realize are very unlikely to happen. The MCU is much more likely to follow through with their drek announcements, and the poor results probably make it that much easier to for the DCU to pull the plug on their second-tier plan announcements.

For DC, this ship sailed long ago. . |

The better analogy is the MCU was a restaurant putting out good food up until about four years ago. They still have the old reviews on their menu “Voted best Restaurant 2013, 2014, 2015.” Original chef owners sold-out to a corporate chain. They substituted lower quality ingredients and expanded the menu offering to focus on “healthier” alternatives that fit their global brand better. Food has sucked since the ownership change but many still eat there out of habit and because (until recently) it was the “IT” place to eat. They still make decent money (great location, people know the name) but anyone with a discerning palette recognizes their food is now mediocre-to-awful. The DC approach has been random food carts/trucks offering up a mix of stale hot dogs, excellent halal meats and some really tasty local fare. Some have long lines, others needed to be replaced despite great locations. New ownership is looking to invest in brick-and-mortar locations for the better ones and thanks to more creative license, is attracting some top chef talent. I know where I’ve enjoyed eating more recently. |

Quote:Originally Posted by EbayMafia This is a mostly fair analysis. As has been said a thousand times, the main difference between the MCU and the DCEU is Kevin Feige. DC throws everything at the wall and only some things stick, while the opposite tends to be true for Marvel, because Feige has balls and a plan. No one in WB upper-management had/has balls to follow-thru with any plans or announcements. |

I’d speculate that Detective 359 prices are going to head downhill in auctions over the next several months. It might be a good time to upgrade that in my son’s collection during that period. How do you know The DCU is poorly managed? They have 2 guys in different movies playing Batman. Are we supposed to believe that Robert Pattinson’s Batman isn’t in the same universe as Ben Affleck’s. |

Keep in mind WB “top management” is a very different reality today vs a year ago. The WB spin-off from ATT is a big deal. The new chief is not the same as the old. The direction is to build and invest in DC as a tentpole. The changes being made reflect this. No longer under a Telco umbrella. Sink or swim on its own merit. They will invest heavily on building out DC. The timing couldn’t be better. Marvel now has a string of relative busts on their hands (Thor was a relative fail, Strange 2 a disappointment, Eternals, Shang Chi and Black Widow combined an overall disappointment). The Batman was a huge success despite no continuity with DCEU and yet another reboot. Lots of buzz around Black Adam, lots of attention on Aquaman and The Flash lol, and halo buzz potential for Shazam. Hard to see anything but a clear shift. It is rare for the top dog to remain so forever. Ups and downs. |

From what I've been reading, it's seems there were a number of factors that led to this decision. In short, I think the old proverb, "a new broom sweeps clean", is very appropriate. This Guardian article sums everything up quite nicely.

Can a company faceplant more than DC and still survive? I'm guessing the test screenings looked like that disaster of a Batwoman tv show they aired a few years ago. Like we needed more of that? At least they are providing us all some humor albeit inadvertently. Maybe Image needs a movie studio now to compete with the MCU/DCEU crapfest. |

I have my own theory about what DC is doing under the new management. I think they want what Marvel has and they figure the best way to do that is to work with Marvel. That involves a severe reworking of their major arc plan and is leading to lots of projects being scrapped for no apparent reason. I bet meetings with Fiege have already happened. I bet the next set of phases 7-9 is going to be a crossover event. phase 6 is going to end however it ends and then there will be 1 post credit scene that will blow everyone's mind. a multiverse portal opens up and (Cavill) Superman is there on the other side, looking right through it at everyone. Zoom in on supes and fade to black. you heard it here first! |
