Ebay Filtering Out CBCS Search Results!?!?18102

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
This is awful for anyone trying to sell CBCS books, especially at auction. I know you can click on "search for CBCS" instead, but I'd like to know why it's defaulting to CGC, even after typing cbcs in the search. Is this happening to everyone else? If so, is there anything that CBCS's legal department can do about it?

I check ebay every couple of weeks to see if there's any great deals for cbcs books at auction. I think this was probably implemented by Ebay within the last week or so or I would've noticed it earlier.

If it continues, I won't be buying or selling on Ebay anymore.

It isn't doing the same thing for a "PGX". Do you think CGC also has something to do with this? I'm sure one of the major vendors like MCS that has thousands of CBCS slabs cross listed on Ebay will be made aware of this. I wonder what response they'll receive from Ebay.

You might want to continue to buy there, since your bidding competitors can't even find the CBCS stuff to bid on.

Ebay - It's like they strive to screw up, and have a great record of doing so.

Most sellers put "CBCS not CGC" in the title so it will show up in CGC searches, figuring you're looking for graded comics. Keyword spamming for sure, but no other viable alternative.

That is weird... Obviously that won't upset the asshats that put "cbcs - like cgc / pgx" in their title.

It may be an error with using ebay on an internet browser. My ebay phone app isn't filtering out a cbcs search.

Something is certainly wrong with ebay's tags for searches using for both CGC and CBCS.

I searched "CGC 9.8" on ebay's home page (using a full site search i.e. search thru all categories) and did the same under "CBCS 9.8".

On both searches, I saw my search redirected instantly within only "comics and graphic novels", despite not selecting that specific category.

But the stranger result I saw is that both search results yielded 100,000 more search hits under "CBCS 9.8" than under "CGC 9.8".

130K+ for CBCS 9.8 and 120K+ for CGC 9.8.

If anything, there should be at least twice as many search results for CGC 9.8 than CBCS 9.8; CBCS hasn't slabbed nearly as many books as CGC has, as CGC has like a 15 year head start over CBCS.

Stranger still, is the first result I got for a "CBCS 9.8" search yielded 140,000+, search hits...100,000+ more than the same result, searched just seconds later....I didnt screenshoot that result but that was all of like 10 to 30 seconds before I followed up with the 2 searches shown in the attached screenshots.

....

That no longer works to sellers' advantage; eBay deranks keyword spamming search results.

I remember a CGC boardie posting about that eBay rollout change a couple years ago.

My searches above were using my desktop computer; not my cell.

Not sure what's going on but either way, something is messed up.

It looks fine to me. You're overreacting. There isn't some conspiracy to block cbcs from Ebay.

possible solution?

Write in the title "CBCS Spider-Man #1 NOT CGC"

just by putting "CGC" in the title and description, might be enough to bypass that ebay filter.

Late to the party, but searching just “CBCS” works fine for me. The first CGC slab shows up around 75th on the list(Transformers #1).

I don't know what eBay did, but the search function sucks. I get too many search results that are different than what I typed in.

This is all part of the latest "new improved" eBay mess. A large proportion of the results of these searches is pure randomness.

This violates ebay listing policies. It's considered keyword spamming and they remove these listings regularly. "Yeah , but everyone does it". Yeah, but if someone has a competing listing they can report you and get your listing removed. If you get reported too many times they'll suspend your account. This happened to me the first time I tried selling a couple of slabs on ebay and saw people using this method for listing. Another seller tried to get all my listing removed because theyhad similar books up from a kickstarter.

How about just accurately listing what you have for sale so buyers who want it can find and purchase it?

When a brand name like Frisbee becomes an industry noun or CGC becomes an industry verb or Yo-Yo becomes both, I don’t think it’s illogical that sellers would try to include them in the title. People may search The generic “washing machine”, but nobody searches a generic term for graded/slabbed comics.

@flanders - i saw this a month or two ago. After the search redirects to cgc from CBCS, you can tell the ebay search engine to ignore cgc in the future. It’s kinda like Apple Mac auto correct. Once uou tell ebay to ignore it won’t change in the future.

I don't see the problem. The original post looks just like what I see. There is a link that says
"Search instead for CBCS graded 9.8". It does the same thing for a PGX search.

It is not the least bit awful for people trying to sell CBCS graded books. People selling CBCS graded books are STUPID if they are not finding a way to insert "CGC" in the listing. IMHO, CGC is a generic term for third party, encapsulated graded comic books. Just like "Coke" is generic for carbonated beverages. Most people are OK with Pepsi too. On the rare occasions I sell on eBay, I always do CGC / CBCS or CBCS / CGC. Whichever is first is the grading company the book was graded by.
