Instagram and PayPal hacked!!18082

Collector Ginosdad private msg quote post Address this user
Well it happened! Anybody buying and selling comics on Instagram beware. Look out for XCACollectables. They are scammers and have hijacked my IG and PayPal. Both are shut down. Trying to recover and open another PayPal

I lost my Instagram last month to hackers. Good luck trying to get that back. Meta has no customer support. Recovery tricks that everyone posts sometimes work. For me No. Nope. Nada.

@Ginosdad if you don't mind me asking how did you find out you had been hacked and to what extent were you hacked?

I'm just asking so that others who use IG and PP have in idea what to look out for. I use PP but do not buy and sell over IG.

Yeah happened after an artist friend was hacked and then they immediately went after mine. Do not respond to any requests for help from friends or family. Even if you did set up that to begin with as a means of recovery.

I've been resisting doing that because it's a pain, but you're absolutely correct. I'll be setting it up next time I'm on PayPal.

Same freakin' page. If they have the skills to set up something like that, then they should be able to get an IT job that would get the bills paid. No excuse.

Problem is, thieves aren't looking for REAL jobs.

You've got that right. IT is a great field with so much potential for serious growth, but you still have to put the work in like everyone else. Guess scammers aren't interested in that. Freakin' pondscum.

that and once you’ve confirmed a bank account during setup (if that is still a requirement) remove that account post haste with a credit card set as your default payment. Preferably a credit provider who will go to bat for you on an unauthorized charge that looks “normal”. Like a purchase toward your comic addicimean hobby.

I had my Ebay account hi jacked last year and they tried to get in my Pay-Pal account as well.

E-Bay customer support wasn't much help..... BUT the Pay-Pal folks were friggin BOSS when it came to dealing with scammers, at least the Pay-Pal person that was helping me.

Dual authentication is ABSOLUTELY critical now days and if you have ever had your accounts Hi jack you certainly won't think its a pain in the ass. Its actually not that difficult to set up. It simply sends a text code to your phone anytime someone(including yourself) trys to log in to your account. You then have to enter the text code to log in.

Having been a victim myself last year I really feel for the OP and the Plight he now has to navigate.

Unfortunately these friggin scumbags have made dual authentication mandatory IMHO.

I wish the op the best of luck

As @poka pointed out, you should enable 2 factor authorization for your paypal.

As the hacker was able to change your email address, I'd change your Google/Gmail password as well as that is essentially tied to all apps that run on your p[hone.

Enable 2 factor authorization on your Google account and up the ante on all of the google security settings on your phone and any connected device.

Sign out of any/all devices when you change your password, google will give you that choice, make sure you sign out and remove any other devices from your account when changing your password.

Personally, I'd just close my paypal account once you get the money back.

if the hacker was able to access your email account as you say he did he may also be able to spoof your cell number, which means this would likely be a recurring issue.......not neccesarily the same hacker, these types sell spoofed numbers to other hackers.

A hacker an senduse your number to spoof 2 factor authorization, and access your paypal to send funds to a shell account...that was done to me, and paypal told me to kick rocks.

IOW, you may have to get a new phone.

iPhones are ideal, not android.

But yeah, its also also worth paying 25 or so bucks or so a month for a security.

Lastly, even with 2 factor security on paypal, I wouldnt bother with a new paypal account.

Impossible. They don’t have proper feet or hands. And if they do, then they are not straight. Just throw pouch(es) filled with blood at them.

Yes, everyone should use 2 factor authirazation and strong passcodes (as in at least a dozen characters, no words, just unconnected/random lower and upper case letters, numbers and interspersed characters like ,never use the ame password on ,more than one account/app).

However, these are only preventitive measures

And if the hacker has your cell number spoofed, 2 factor authorization on ebay will bebypassed in less than a second. Literally, this is what happens. You get the 2 factor authorizatoion prompt on your screen and half a second later before you can do anything, your cell will proceed just as if you had physically completed the 2 factor steps authorizatoion yourself.

Once you are hacked, if the hacker's doorway into your device(s) was via a link/email/private message that you clicked on, simply changing your passwords and enabling 2 factor authorization won't be enough.

One thing that can prevent most money transfers is getting rid of debit card(s) and only having a credit card, the money zapped with a debit card is basically gone.

Credit cards have much more protection for customers who have been hacking victims.

Lastly, one's home network password MUST be changed, I forgot to note that in my last post.

Call your internet provider and change it over the phone in conversation.

@ginosdad should take all my advice.

Heck, everyone reading this thread should do all these things.

Hacking has exploded since the pandemic began, anyone involved in computers can tell you that.
