Has anyone tried Overstreet Access for collection management?18071

Collector Paint_Monk private msg quote post Address this user
I'm curious, as I stumbled across it tonight. Having a database where I can manage my collection and get updated values from Overstreet would be a dream come true.

Any thoughts/comments/experiences using their service?

Thanks!
Wally

Just dropped the $90 for a year to try it out, and so far, I'm not seeing any method to import a collection.

That's not good. I'm not about to spend months re-cataloging 35,000 comics into ANOTHER collection site like I've done with 5 different services in the past 4 years, including Zap-Kapow, Collectorz, Nostomania, Comicspriceguide, and Comicbase. I also tried just keeping an inventory of slabs on GoCollect and GPAnalysis. Nobody has a solution I like 100% but comicspriceguide has come the closest for me. All the other sites were a nightmare when it came to identifying different print or variant covers. God almighty.

From the looks of it, they're borrowing the idea of sorting collections based on boxes like comicspriceguide.com does. I'll try to get at least one of my boxes cataloged and we'll see how it goes. I like comicspriceguide.com, but their absolute refusal to allow export of information so I can work my collection is infuriating and makes having my information in their system useless to me. They keep claiming its because other companies are trying to steal their data. I don't care. A lot of their data is customer input anyway. I'll move to a platform that has half the functionality as long as I can pull my information OUT Of the system into a spreadsheet when I need/want to.

What the hell am I talking about? I'll give an example... The other day I wanted to pull out all my higher grade Neal Adams signed stuff and consider sending it off for grading. Well, forget it, that's not possible. I know I've got a bunch, but they're scattered about.

I've got hundreds of boxes, with books of all ages and titles scattered everywhere, but all of it inventoried in the system, including details of whether it's signed or not and who's signed it. It's impossible to do what I need with my collection because there's no way to search my collection by artist and by whether they signed the comic. I'd have to already know which books I'm looking for, search for them by title and issue and then I can see if a copy I own is signed, whether it's high grade enough to send off and which box it's in.

That all said, as it now stands, I don't see any way to import OR export data from this new site. Makes it useless to me and I'm not even going to bother with it if I have to spend another 8-12 months cataloging all my books again. Oh well, wouldn't be the first time I pissed $90 down the drain.

Overstreet Access sounds interesting to me, but I'd need to see more than what the 'free' access will show me before I'll commit to giving them any $$$.

@agamoto
You may want to look into CovrPrice. I've used a number of online services including (but not limited to) Zap-Kapow, Nostomania, comicspriceguide, GPAnalysis, and GoCollect, and the one I prefer by far is Covrprice. It allows you to search your collection for things like top estimated value, cover date, current trend, graded, raw, signed/autographed, and recently added. It's not perfect by any standard, but it gives me the information I want and unlike some sites (GPAnalysis...) it has good graphics.

As for what you can import data-wise I couldn't tell you. I catalogued my collection there myself. I've tried doing that with other sites like Nostomania (nightmare), Zap-Kapow, and comicspriceguide, but I always got so frustrated by how much of a drag it was that I gave up before I finished. Covrprice is the first online service where I actually got done cataloguing my collection, so I didn't really have anything to import there in the first place.

I did have a look at covrprice as well, and I think the reason I didn't stick around was two fold, identifying the rare/odd stuff and print variants, plus I thought their values we're completely out of whack. No one has the values nailed down.

@Reelgee
Both comicspriceguide and CovrPrice have graded AND raw values.

I haven't had much trouble with CovrPrice regarding variants, etc., partly because I may not have as many rare books as other folks, and partly because CovrPrice lets you add things. They've added at least a couple dozen variants after I input the info.

As for values, I don't think any of them are so accurate that you can use a single website and have it all. The closest is probably GPAnalysis, but their dataset (CGC slabbed books only) is so restricted even that gets questionable. That's why I tend to get values from at least five sources before I'll estimate a FMV for a book.

@Reelgee CLZ is adding CVRPrice integration in the next few months for raw and graded values. It will require a separate CVRPrice subscription, however

I posted some information on CLZ a few hours ago (including screenshots) and it seems to have disappeared. Did anyone else see it? I don't know why it would have been deleted. Weird.

I started using CLZ a while back but almost as soon as I started cataloguing my books they lost their deal with GoCollect and wouldn't be providing estimated values anymore. That caused me to lose my enthusiasm, but aside from that, I actually liked them for the short time that I used that service.

I'll try this again. I use the mobile app version of CLZ. It let's you see your data in a wide variety of ways. It will automatically sync your data to their Cloud, where you can import / export data. Worth checking out.

I may have to look into that again. It'd be nice to have something with an app.

@Caffeine_Kid I saw your post in a different thread. Maybe you put it there accidentally or maybe it was forum goblins.

@Byrdibyrd I’ve used CLZ for years. They have 3 different products depending on your needs

I use the desktop app which provides a lot of customization for custom fields, filters, etc.

The mobile app (which I use as well) does its job well but if you have a lot of comics the image files can definitely take up a chunk of space on your device. It is less customizable than the desktop app but it also allows you to carry your collection on your phone.

There is a cloud service available, too. This is accessible from any device with a web browser so it has that convenience going for it. I don’t have a lot of experience with this since it’s completely cloud based and I prefer to work locally.

That said, the desktop and mobile apps both sync to the cloud, giving you a read-only page to view your collection from any web-enabled service, like this

If you have your collection on an spreadsheet it should import over without much fuss though it might take a little bit to link each issue with their database so you can download cover images, creators, and other information. They’ve improved the process so you don’t necessarily have to do it one issue at a time but it can be time consuming making sure you’re linking to correct variants across a large collection

Thanks for the info! It all looks very familiar and I should go check how much of my collection I catalogued there and whether I can still access it or not.

I'm with you on preferring to work locally, but I'll deal with the cloud if I can access my collection via a hand-held device. Just too convenient.

Oh.. that must be it. I did look at other threads but didn't find it. I should pay closer attention to what I'm doing. I'll blame it on the heat. It was 93F / 34C here today.

Saw this on the CLZ FAQ.

“ Q: Can I just pay for a 1 month subscription and then cancel and keep the values? Then maybe after a year subscribe for 1 month again to get updated values?

A: No, I am afraid that won’t work. To have access to the CovrPrice values in your CLZ app/software, you always need an active subscription to CovrPrice. As soon as your subscription expires, the values will disappear from the app.”
