It’s a small percentage of gamblers that do it for anything other than entertainment purposes. That’s why they stick out to us and the stories stick with us. I’m gonna guess that 95% of people who gamble in a given year do not adversely affect their lives.

If I were to gamble I'd say it affects them. Just very negatively. Vs scrooge mcduck...

Gamble in a given year, not gamble away a given year.

It’s very much like alcohol, or junk food, or any of a number of things that in moderation (relative to the thing, or sometimes person) is usually okay. Some can’t handle (the thing) and so the impact is … far more harmful.

One thing. If we refer to them (or they describe themselves) as “gamblers” then maybe the 95% doesn’t apply.

If we say people who sometimes like to gamble, I agree.

Yes, true. I just remember my local card house was mostly retirees using it as a social club and way to get out of the house. If you walk through a Vegas strip (maybe not downtown, lol) casino, 95 out of 100 people gambling are likely just there for amusement, IMO.

Why just the women? I like bears. Gaard private msg quote post Address this user
There used to be a casino in Michigan City - it's a city located just south of the MI/Indiana border. No idea if the casino is still there as it's been over 2 decades since I've been to a casino. Back in the day the casino was on a luxury liner which (and I have no idea if this is true) had to go out onto Lake Michigan in order to legally operate. It was always fun to sit at a BJ table close to the main doors so you could see all the people who lost all their money ... they couldn't leave because we were well out on the lake, so they just sat around on the floor by the doors.

took a second to get my mind out of the gutter and focus on what a BJ table was.....I think you guys have a BJ Club in the US too (like a membership bulk purchase place)

The apple sauce and pudding were the best part... Bronte private msg quote post Address this user
I sent in a book to have restoration removed. The initial screening said it is possible.

I now got a letter saying it won't benefit from CCS and is going to grading.

Anybody ever have restoration removed? Is this typical

I emailed and called them. Nothing more I can do at this point, but your right, they charge 15$ for screening say yeah its possible, then send letter saying opposite. And they say communication is great with cgc. Not when it stirs a hornet nest and leaves you hanging.

Personally, I’ve always kind of looked at pre screen as a bigger scam than putting a number on a book. I’m biased though.

@HeinzDad

Pre-screen is mandatory for restoration removal. It wasn't really for pressing. Generally I press everything if the presser doesn't see the point so be it. But I submit the lowest to the highest books just in case..... I'm not leaving money on tbe table if I can help it.

Has anyone ever submitted for grade pre screen and in the long run didn’t have their book hit the mark?

@HeinzDad

Yes. I submitted for 9.8 pre-screen on a bunch of Spider-man 2099 copies. About 30 failed. Resubmitted and half got 9.4 due to i think foxing. The others got 9.8. Still have about 10 copies upgraded. But rejected from original pre screen.

I’d much rather spend the small amount, then they admit it cannot be “fixed”, than they make an attempt and butcher it.

The process and pricing makes sense.
