It's not hard to get two of those bags to stick together. The adhesive is strong and it just needs some extra tape. And yeah, let's not harp on FedEx again.

Ever buy a comic only to find out the publisher specializes in nude covers and such?

I bought a black cat cover with cat in a bikini. When I went to see about grading the book it turns out the publisher is not marvel and the cover is more risqué than I had thought upon looking at the picture more closely.

YES. Definitely run into this problem, though it wasn't me who bought the books. It was a friend who knew I liked comics and picked a couple up for me at a LCS somewhere when he was out of town. I have no doubt the covers appealed to him... He apparently didn't look past those covers and handed them off to me when he got back.

Uh... 'Thanks'...?

I don't read comics in general so I prolly wont even open the book to see how bad it is. But I definitely need to start looking at possible purchases on a monitor vs my cell phone.

What would you say is the value of a Wizard Magazine #1 CGC 9.6 Newsstand Edition?

The CGC census lists 28 9.6 and 7 9.8 total copies, but doesn't specify newsstand vs direct.

I have annual passes to Universal (two-park) and the 4-park Seaworld/Busch Gardens/water parks. I go to the parks 12ish times/year. We've been to Busch Gardens every Christmas day since moving here (only once has it been cooler than 85 F). The natural areas of FL are spectacular, including many of the beaches and the Keys are the best snorkeling/diving in the contiguous US (though Guam puts it and Hawaii to shame...at least when I was there 2009ish).

The biggest issues with FL are:

1. The driving is next level awful (I've lived around NYC, on Long Island, I've driven around Boston, DC, LA, San Diego and all over Ohio, Indiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and the Virginias, I've lived in South Carolina, North Carolina, Connecticut, Missouri and Florida). Florida drivers are the worst collection of drivers I've ever experienced. The driving here is so poor that 3 months after moving here I bought a dashcam (and have had to use it for evidence...twice, but only one for me).

2. The people here are extremely unpleasant. By that I mean your probability of encountering extremely unpleasant people is quite high. I thought complaining combined with being overly aggressive/confrontational was something I left on Long Island...whoo boy was I wrong (seriously...I lived on Long Island for 6 years; has nothing on this place). I had only seen...maybe...two adult fights in my life. Since moving to FL I've witnessed instances of road rage that would shock you. Seen bullets fly from car to car because of a "cut-off". I've seen 12 adult fist fights since arriving here. 3 of them at Costco, 2 at publix, 1 at Wal-Mart, several just out on the street (there's so many I've lost track of the locations). While doing field research on public property (beaches or national/state parks) I've been threatened three times with guns (once a shotgun, twice with handguns). This had never happened to me in the prior 16 years of field research (though...my lab-mate did find human remains in Jamaica Bay, NY). In NY I've been offered bathrooms and even brought food (the people that own/owned? Sbarro were very nice, as was the CEO of Estee Lauder). In Guam I've had people bring me coconuts during my 12-14 hour days. In SC, NC, and Jersey I've had curious people ask me about my work...not in FL. I've had to have a police escort to one field site because when we got the permits accepted and informed the authorities we'd be there working on x dates and exactly where, they were like "Oh...we're gonna need to come with you initially, don't go out there alone"...

Been pretty good about not being fooled into this, though I did buy a comic with a non-risque cover to support an artist I really like only to open the book and find out it's just porn on the inside.

I've had a suspicion that FL drivers were pretty special simply because of the plethora of dashcam videos from there (yes, I sometimes watch dashcam videos - I find it cathartic). What a shame that so many of them have to be jerks as well as rubbish drivers.

Naturally, we have a lot of 'special' drivers in CA as well, but some of that can be attributed to the sheer number of drivers. Most CA drivers are actually pretty good. Just don't ask us to drive in the snow.

I don't buy books with scantily clad women on the covers (no interest) so I'm usually safe from unintended porn purchasing. However, if an artist I wanted to support had an explicit book, I would consider buying it anyway. I don't have a problem with porn so long as everyone knows what they're selling/buying.

I'm usually in this camp...I'll add a caveat though...I do have a weakness for 40's and 50's covers (particularly space lady) - Modern ones somehow seem more on the raunchy side, although not always.

My last unintended nakedness purchase was Gun Honey - it was in the story and not gratuitous but I was not expecting it - overall though it was one of the better reads in a while and I will get the new series (for the story!! - not any surprise nudity!!)

Golden Age covers with pretty women get a pass. That's a classic artstyle and part of comics history. Plus I fully agree that the more modern ones frequently have a raunchy element that isn't present in art from Ye Olden Dayes.

As I was watching the games yesterday, I was forced to sit thru what seemed like 1,000 of those damn sportsbetting commercials. At one point, I asked myself, "Who in their right mind would use those things?" Then it occurred to me that there must be a ton of people using them simply because they exist. So I pose this question to the boards...
Have any of you successfully used those things? Or know someone who has?

This doesn't answer your question but it does kind of explain the mentality behind it.

I am a gambleholic. I realized this when I went to an arcade that had slot machines that only used tokens. I literally went through my entire wallet contents and then hit ATM for more cash to buy tokens. The fact that I wasn't going to win any money especially since they were tokens was irrelevant. The compulsion made me keep going.

My point is, if they get even one sucker like me to start they can earn enough to sustain the scam for a very long time.

Edit

After I came to that realization. I vowed to never start again and I don't gamble on anything except occasional lotto tickets.

never used one myself and no one I know has admitted to it.

Apparently the market is educated men under 30.
They think they are smarter than everyone else and can come up with a 'system' to win - then you gameafy it and it becomes tokens or something so your brain doesn't click that it's cash

Only went to a local casino 2 or 3 times in my life - need to treat it as a nigh out (like the movies) take your budget... say $50 - and only spend that - when that is gone either walk around or watch your friends....have a nice dinner then go home - you don't want to be the people wearing diapers sitting at the slots at 5am hoping for a pay out....you really don't

If we are on gambling I have some 'fun' stories

Mid to late 90's I was prep/pantry chef at a Hard Rock Cafe at a Casino in Niagara Falls (Canada side)
The stuff you see!!

Parents and kids come in for food - parents leave the kids with $$ to settle up but have left an hour or more before to go play slots. The manager cashes the kids out then sends them into the night. Parents come back irate!! and call the cops...who then charge them with child abandonment and off they all go to I assume family services

No matter when you arrive (5am for prep) or leave (2am for pantry) there are people on the slots and at the tables and parking tower is full - scary

This Casino was just down from Niagara Falls and just across the street from it was the Rainbow Bridge....soooooo many people lose all their cash and jump - never gets reported. My step dad was a border guard - horrifying how often it happens. I was with my wife having dinner at a Keg that overlooks the falls etc. - saw a guy jump! most people I assume were looking at the lights or fireworks over the falls - not me -seen it 1000 times - so I was looking at the bridge!!!!

Lesson is - DON'T GAMBLE!!

Some folks can handle it and some can't. ALWAYS assume that you can't and just leave it alone. I got my wake-up calls twice. Once was a job I had in a lab when I was still young (we won't talk about how long ago that was). My boss was a gambling addict and one day he happened to win $2500 betting on the ponies. He was bad before but went nuts after that. Not long after I lost my job because he couldn't afford to pay me anymore as he had gambled everything away.

The second time was a real surprise. I was on a trip with my dad, and we were in Nevada in a little town where he had some property. My dad always had issues with looking at things from the perspective of other people, so I think he wound up with a wake-up call of his own when I was out there meeting his good friends for the first time. I'd never met so many misogynistic, racist, ignorant rednecks in my life, and I don't think he ever realised that vibe was out there. The kicker was when we met that nice young couple that lived down the street. I was introduced and after some pleasantries, they launched into a tirade about how their grade-school-aged son had just gotten expelled for dousing another child in lighter fluid and setting him on fire. They were not pissed about the incident or their kid's behaviour or the school environment or anything like that. They were pissed because the expulsion meant their kid was at home and had to be looked after and that resulted in them not being able to take their welfare money out and go gambling.

Just say 'no' to gambling folks. Seriously.

I should have put 'nice young couple' in quotes. That was what my dad thought of them before I met them and he wound up with a whole different perspective. Kinda like the Super Bowl party that happened while I was there. All the men were in the living room watching the game and all the women had to stay in the kitchen unless a man yelled for snacks or a beer. While I was in the kitchen, these women talked about all the n-word players in the game and how they weren't good for anything other than sports, but at least they had nice-looking a$$e$. I was absolutely mortified and got to spend 3 hours in that Hellhole, and my dad never noticed before that's what was going on whenever he watched a game there with his good buddies. It's not like I'd never encountered racists before, but this was the first - and only - time I was with them in their natural element. Never again.
