Who was selling mylars here recently?18009

Masculinity takes a holiday. EbayMafia private msg quote post Address this user
I seem to remember a sales thread recently and the first few items for sale were used mylars. Can anyone lead me to it? I think I was incapacitated at the time it went up.

I have a stack of used tab-top mylars a mile high. I take them off any books that I'm going to be sending in to get graded. Not sure what the breakdown in as far as sizes go, but what size(s) are you interested in?

I use one size exclusively, I believe it is called Gold/Silver?
By the way I recommend doing the opposite and putting the books in mylars for shipping. I bag and board (one or two boards per book) and then ship two books in each mylar. Mylars have rigid edges and particularly rigid corners that will help absorb impact in case of a mishap.

I just checked my big stack of Mylars and I have A Lot of the Silver/Gold size. I'll just need time to go through them and find the ones that don't look scuffed up.

As for shipping, I use the cardboard sandwich when I ship my books out for grading. The book goes in the sandwich, which I will write instructions on if needed, and then it goes inside a box. Other method is books in a gemini mailer which goes inside a box.

@flanders that was it. I was temporarily incapacitated at the time.

@Byrdibyrd I'm not too worried about scuffs if they are on one side only. If you've got more than 30 let's talk. We're both in Southern California so probably about 8 bucks for shipping in a medium size priority box (not flat rate) unless prices have gone up.

I have 50 right now that are in good shape. I have more, too, so if I think one of the 50 I have set aside is unattractive, I'll swap it out for another.
I have no problem shipping in regional rate Priority boxes. I have plenty.

Absolutely. I'll have some Silver/Gold and also a big stack of Current. I may even have a few G.A. ones for the big G.A. books, too.

Who knew that at the end of the run used Mylar would be where the money is to be made.

I honestly had no idea what I was going to do with all those used Mylars! Some of them are too crunchy to pass on (IMHO), but if the presentable ones are in demand, I'll keep selling.

How much are used mylar sleeves (not mylites) going for these days?

@MRmintastic I'm still going through what I've got, but the ones I've sold so far are going for just under US$1 each. I have some that are more beat up, but if you're not using them for display, that shouldn't matter. Those I would let go for cheaper. Any particular size?

Also contact @figment. Lots of Gold/Silver size - more than I have.

@MRmintastic okay i'm curious what the difference, mylar/mylite? so are you guys talking about just sleeves or bags or both??

@Reelgee
A 'Mylar' is a sleeve made of 4 mil mylar plastic that doesn't degrade like a regular comic book bag. It's stiff and - if not scuffed up like some of mine are - very clear. Great for displaying books and the stiffness gives protection, too. A 'Mylite' is a 2 mil mylar comic bag that is about the thickness of a piece of mylar balloon. Like a Mylar, they don't deteriorate over time, but they're flimsy, so they offer no physical protection.

kool thanks, hmmm that does make sense for shipping protection but seems expensive. but better safe than crying. i was thinking @EbayMafia wanted bags, my bag LOL. i asked because they have 4mil mylite also, so i got confuse. i dont have many sleeves, so never thought about using for shipping

The ones I have are also listed at just under $1 each. They should be considered required, along with an acid free backing board, for any comic of value. Seems expensive yes, but they are totally worth it from a protection standpoint, and the "new" ones are about $1.30 after tax and shipping.

You and Byrdibyrd are right on the money. Besides a 4 mil mylar sleeve for high grade raw comics, I ship NM or better books of value inside a magazine toploader for double protection. Nothing worse than damaged high grade books, and nothing better than a satisfied buyer enjoying their razor sharp books.

Thanks Byrdibyrd!
I have enough mylars for now, but may hit you up in the future if I run out.

Not to steal any thunder from the secondary market. Very useful if you don't need to buy a lot of them at once. And I think there is still a gold size shortage. Not to mention people typically aren't looking to buy these in the thousands...but, if you need to buy a lot of these, you should call e.gerber directly and order.

I ordered 2000 mylite 2 standard and 1000 standard halfbacks (already had 1000) sometime in the spring. It was $548.00, that included $72.00 S&H. That's $0.16 per bag/board combo for incredibly high quality, archival safe, never need to replace, comic supplies pre-shipping. When you add the $72 S&H and split it across the 3,000 items in my order; it adds $0.04 per item or $0.08 per pairing.

All told $0.24 per bag/board combo. Think it did take about 6 weeks to get (and they may still be short of golden)

Change the size (silver or golden) or switch to fullbacks (which I love but they take up an INSANE amount of additional room) and 4 mils and it adds more cost, but I think you're still under $0.33 per bag/board combo if you can buy at least 1000 of each. Certainly not cheap in the grand scheme of things compared to more basic products, but in this case you get what you pay for.

Comic Pro Line Mylar bags for sale from a place in Canada. Their regular bags and boards are nice, but I haven't used their mylars. Doesn't look like they have specific boards for the mylars. Looks like 15% off mylars with promo MYLARSALE.

On a side note, my LCS is getting some E Gerber bags and boards in. The owner heard full backs are different than before and possibly not as good, so he is a bit worried. I'll reserve judgement until I see them.

I also have 20 GA mylars with 19 fullbacks if someone would like them. Some have price stickers on the front of the bags, and some have tape residue on the flaps but they seem good. If someone is interested, I can inspect them more closely to make sure they're truly good to go. I only use the current, standard and magazine mylar and fullbacks.

A month ago the lcs I help out at gave me these Mylars that were in a paper bag from a collection. Silver age size. The owner doesn't like mylar so they were free.

I only use Mylar sleeves on all my books.
Years ago I downsized to 350 books and ever since every time I buy a book it goes in mylar no matter the cost.
I like that they don't have to be changed in the future.
