Weekly Cover Contest #307 - Artist's First Cover17996

Where's his Bat-package? Byrdibyrd private msg quote post Address this user
@Rbolton
As I understand it, the first covers he did that would be considered comic book covers were for Warren Magazines, but as to whether that's a certainty, I can't say. In any case, I question if there are any records of which one he did first.

Byrdibyrd, I thought that as well, but then ran across this https://www.keycollectorcomics.com/artist/frank-frazetta,490/ pretty cool info. I thought I was familiar with most Frazetta work, but there are a few on that website that I had no clue about.

I love Key Collector, it's such a great resource, but also check comics.org/Grand Comics Database (https://www.comics.org/issue/213374/) because they are more detailed information and will provide references for their data. Frazetta MAY have done some inks on the cover, but what's more certain is that he did the inks for a story inside called "Snowman" penciled by John Giunta.

Very cool, and that is definitely more detailed.

He had interior work and was co-credited on a couple of covers before this, but this is the first solo Dave Cockrum cover as best I can tell.

@esaravo
Sorry. It's Marvel Team-Up #141, inked by Mike Mignola. This isn't very well-known because Art Adams only did the cover - not the interior of that book.

@seanw
Sorry, it's Alternative #8 (comics fanzine) and it's already on here courtesy of @dielinfinite

@Byrdibyrd - I changed it. Adams first work was Longshot, but he took a year to finish drawing issue #1! So other titles/work came out before Longshot #1 was published.

It doesn't surprise me that he took so long to draw that first issue! I remember when it came out and everyone had a cow, it was so detailed. Big shock coming from an artist that no one had heard of before then.

This is not Neal Adams's first comic book cover. He did several other covers before this one for Strange Adventures.

I think C.C. Beck? There's this, an ashcan. Then there's the actual comic, with the same art, that was renamed Thrill Comics because Flash Comics was already copyrighted by DC
