Ending in minutes. One of those books that's considered iconic in small circles. Not sure what the prospects are, but this one was slabbed before I knew about pressing. I recently upgraded to a 9.6 because I'm allergic to 9.2. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?ItemID=56364008 Current price $91 ![]() |

@KatKomics I think the CBCS label cost you on this one. My guess is that most of the buyers who significantly value Newsstand copies also value CGC labels significantly over CBCS.

Can't complain too much - this was my extra copy and I've had them for ages - probably $100 or $150 or less plus press/grade into them - so still a plus!! - I'll also get an extra 25/30% when I convert to CAD.....and...no tax on it |

The Prime Auction is over for me. I had over 40 items in this auction. Rather than torture myself by focusing on every individual sale I followed the total mostly. I chose a goal range for the whole group that I would be happy with. I made my high number by one dollar.

I've also sold an MCS 8.5 for more than a CGC 9.6 that was listed as BIN at the same time. I think there are people out there who will gamble on some MCS 8.5's getting to a 9.6 or 9.8. |

The MCS raw 7.0 went for $11 more than the CGC 7.5. There were a pair of Uncanny 266's and the raw 8.0 went for only $14 less than a CGC 9.2. People want to hit the jackpot. I don't blame them; I just sent some raws to MCS and they got hammered on grade. |

Quote:Originally Posted by EbayMafia I was thinking about what you said, the buyer in this case got a pretty good deal for a CBCS graded copy. GPA shows the last CGC 9.4 sold for $512. This CBCS 9.4 copy sold for $355, $157 less than the CGC copy and well below GPA average, plus it was $87 less than the raw copy. If the buyer were to crack that CBCS 9.4 out and resubmit it to the auction raw, then they may possibly get more back selling it as a raw copy especially if MCS were to grade it a 8.5 or above. |

I know that for many of these books the potential buyers are likely not as hard hit as others...but it still must have some impact no? |

I think it'll definitely lower the ceiling price for some buyers which will probably drop the final price. With MCS's reputation of under grading raw copies, I think if more raw copies continue to sell for more than similarly graded copies there may be a shift from CPR to crack and submit especially if the slab was purchased at a bargain price.

I won a book in the Wed auction. Guess I should’ve waited a bit before paying so I could grab a few more (in addition to some reader copies). I had the luck of bidding on and winning a book that I think went for a “record” price vs. the softer prices I’ve seen for many. Then again, paid half of what I was willing to pay. Win for me. |

Comparing two auction results could be done through thoughtful analysis that assumes rational, informed participants. The expected grade distribution and value (probability x graded value at grade) summed, minus cost to grade, cost of TAT (convenience factor) = raw grade value. Or you happen to have people bidding after a few too many drinks. Some auctions (or entire markets over the span of long periods of time) more closely resemble the latter. |

I think with MCS in particular there is a general assumption among buyers that books have not been cleaned and pressed. Their own stock certainly shows no indication of being pressed. And it would be very rare for a consignor to press a book and then send it to MCS for a hammered grade when they could send it for slabbing instead (although I have done exactly this in a few rare cases.

Quote:Originally Posted by xkonk My experience is to put them into auction and let the market decide. Most times on hammered grades the auction price will do better than BINS, it's happened for me repeatedly. I think this has to do with more than just the additional exposure. I think in auction there is a psychological reassurance that other bidders also think the book has as much potential upside as you do. While in the BIN, potential buyers wonder why no one else is picking it up. |

I have to a) not actually want the money soon, in which case I don't send things to MCS, and b) there have to not be many for sale so that my BIN is just buried in a pile of yellow. |
