If you have Collectors Insurance
do you still need to insure books you send in for grading?
Thank You

It's like the Roach Motel for comic collectors. chester15 private msg quote post Address this user
The quick answer is....no, you don't.

But there are caveats to that. You have to make sure that any shipments you send that are covered by CIS are "Signature Required". You also have to be sure that the method used to return them to you is "Signature Required". If not sent that way, not covered.

This probably won't apply, but if your coverage limit is $10,000, you wouldn't be covered for a shipment worth $25,000.

If you have a Dealer Policy, your shipment coverage is usually only 10% of the full coverage amount. Dealer Policies also have a $200 deductible, so in that case you would want to insure the first $200 through the carrier.

Cool. Not worth grading to me if you lose so much money in insuring both ways.

For very expensive shipments, would it be better to fly and hand deliver them to the CBCS company?

Even if you hand delivered them, unless you pick them up you will still have problem of the books returned via a shipping carrier.

Honestly I've sent books to grading companies in excess of 20k and had zero issues. While that may be chump change to some folks to me it's a hefty sum.

In my house we use $20K bills as napkins. Not sure why, just how I was raised.

You may not even have a choice anyways. The most recent order I sent in, I purposely did not select insurance to save money since it's quite expensive. When my order got there they added it to my order and charged me for it anyways without even asking me...........
