CBCS GradedComics Golden AgeGrading Help Needed

Raw Grading Turnaround Time17823

Collector BillB private msg quote post Address this user
I just inherited a bunch of (about 60) 1940's-era comics in decent shape and need to get an approximation of their value without formally grading and slabbing all of them. The Raw Grading option CBCS offers sounds like a good starting point. Those that come in at higher value might then be worth encapsulating, etc. My question is, how long does the Raw Grading take?? I can't find this anywhere on the CBCS website. Thanks, from a newbie to all tis.

Take some pictures and put them here. We could probably tell you by the end of the weekend which ones should be encapsulated.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
Raw grading should have roughly the same TAT as regular grading, minus a little time because they don't make the same label and slab it. Maybe subtract a week.

My single comparison experience (about a year ago) was a 3-4 week difference on orders submitted in the same week.

Just a couple things. There used to be a maximum value that you could submit for raw grading. I BELIEVE it was $250. Any book valued over $250 had to go through regular grading tiers. Also, it appears that raw grading is now a special event feature.

Hmm. Thanks. If it's only available during events I'm outta luck. I've got an email or two into CBCS but they're pre-occupied with the show in Texas this weekend. I'll post a few pics per EbayMafia's suggestion.

I don't want to overload you with images but here are some of the ones that seem the most valuable from a quick check at Comic Price Guide. Obviously, condition is everything--some are pretty good, some not so much. Thanks for any advice....

Wow.
I would get them graded regular slab if I were you. I'm sure the money will be well spent if you express it as well.

I don't know if it's only special events. He didn't fill out the entire form. When I did, that note went away. Who knows though, the web site is a mess.
Also, very nice books.

@EbayMafia Thanks. I assume you mean 3-4 weeks quicker for Raw Grading than encapsulating...?

@BillB cool books... if you're looking to sell them probably best to get them fully graded.
If they're for your personal collection I would just get some nice mylars and keep them that way.

I don't think CBCS would Raw Grade those books, I think most of them are over the value limit which is approximately $300. Also, you would not want to Raw Grade. Initially Raw Grade did not include a Restoration Check. Many people aren't interested in Golden Age books that used Raw Grade...as it may have been used as a loophole to avoid a restoration check. Just go straight to the slabbing.
If you want to sell them as is, folks here would be interested and @Sborock from MCS (mycomicshop.com) would likely be wanting to have a conversation with you.

@BillB another option would be to consign them with MCS if you are looking to sell. You will get a good price but harsh grades.
I wouldn't even try to sell straight to them though unless you're in a desperate need to to sell.

@sportshort I am. It was a recommendation to get in touch with Steve B. Not to say that I couldn't be tempted to re-open the check book from time to time!

@MutantMania you are correct, they are now. But initially the program did not include a restoration check so I think it kind of still has that Stigma for Golden Age books. A buyer would have to match up grading dates to policy change date. In this case, I think it would just be a red flag...potential buyers would wonder what was the motivation to do Raw Grade vs. slabbed for books of this caliber. It also disqualifies them from being sold at MCS consignment.

So you can't sell a restored book at MCS?
