CBCS Only Slabs You Just Got Back #217617

It was a one trick pony show but always hilarious. GAC private msg quote post Address this user

@esaravo wouldn't you have had those books graded anyway even if you had identified the issues?

If I had identified the issues when I received them, I would have asked for a refund, exchange, or lower price for them.

I can totally relate Ed...this is precisely the reason why I only buy CGC/CBCS slabbed books.....sucks when this happens.

If I had identified the issues when I received them, I would have asked for a refund, exchange, or lower price for them. I did send an email today to the dealer that I purchased the Hulks from with a photo of the slabbed #6. According to his website, he has a no restoration policy. We shall see.

Hopefully the forum member was unaware of the restoration (possible if you didn’t notice either).

@Byrdibyrd That Action 340 is another one of those books that I've picked up multiple copies of over the years. I think my highest grade is also a 7.5 but mid-grades were pretty easy to find for $40-$60. Parasite seems like one of those under-utilized versatile villains who could pop in multiple uses. Maybe not a huge upside, but very little downside at current prices.

This is my only copy, and I got it ages ago. Picked it up because it was a minor key and in pretty good shape. I was figuring it'd get around a 7.0 and I was right (that doesn't always happen...). Nice if it got an 8.0 but all four corners are a little too blunted for that to happen.

Sent in 12 books on May 3, 5 of mine and 7 for my son. Got them back on May 18...the express options are great!

First one, a show buy from a few years ago, Figured it would be between a 5 or 6...guessed correctly.

Another show buy from about 3 years ago...figured as another 5 to 6...nailed it!

I bought this one about 25 years ago. Pressed it and figured it to be a 4 to 5. This one went on the lower end of my guess.

This one is a show buy to replace a really beat up copy I had. Again, figured 4 to 5...again came in on the low end. I hate those old all black covers!

This one I bought a few years ago, thinking that I will never be able to justify dropping the money needed for a real one! I knew when I bought it about the detached piece inside, but what I didn't know at the time was CBCS's policy on missing pieces. I thought I would get a 4.5 to 5.5 on it, but the piece knocked the grade down more then I thought. Still presents well though. The piece was returned to me and now resides in a small bag inside the graded bag that the comic is in.

These first two were the disappointments on the submission. I thought both would be 9.2.

The Forever People 1 came in right where I thought, so OK with that.
The Marvel Super-Heroes 20 exceeded my expectations. I was thinking it would be a 7.5. Very happy.

These three all came in as expected, 9.2 to 9.4. Again, very pleased.

Last group. I thought all three had chances to be 9.8's and happily they all made it. Awesome!

Here's an odd submission. I put this together because I wanted to show a friend of mine who was considering getting some books graded how it was done. I just grabbed books of minor priority and sent them in On The Cheap - Modern Tier, no press, no fast pass. Just a mish-mash of books, but some that were at the top of the stack were Spider-Man anniversary books, so there are a bunch of those here.

First off is the obligatory AS-M #365, which is a must for any Spidey anniversary submission. I figured it would be around 8.0 and here it is. Not a great grade, but I paid less than $20 to get it graded, so...

Next are a couple #375s, and one was a tiny disappointment (I figured 9.2), and the other was a surprise. I knew it was a nice book, but I wasn't sure about 9.8!

I honestly threw this one in for the helluvit. I showed my friend how to select a grade pre-screen (9.6) using this book. The book had an obvious tick on the spine and I figured that it would likely have something else somewhere and I would wind up with a reject. Whatever. SURPRISE!

This one I threw in to demonstrate how to get a signature verified. I kinda hoped it might get a 9.8, but I'll take this.

Let's get back to Spider-Man. I sent in two SS-M #189 and while one came out as I expected, the newsstand edition exceeded all expectations.

Here's another one I threw in just 'cause. SURPRISE!

Ended with some Spider-Man #26. One underperformed (I was considering a pre-screen for 9.0 or 9.2 and didn't do it. I was unwise) and one did about what I figured it would.

@Byrdibyrd That ASM 121 looks awful nice for a 5.0. Got a flaw we can’t see?

Great books, though! Need both of those for my ASM run.

@CatCovers It has some creasing on the back cover, which causes the front cover to have a lot of eye appeal.
