CBCS Only Slabs You Just Got Back #217617

This one is a mixed bag. I bought it by mistake from MCS. It grew on me. It started life as a 9.4 from the cgc signed by Bill Sienkiewicz and complete with inky fingerprints on the back cover. Sienkiewicz is known for getting ink all over his fingers. Before: I was hoping for a 9.8. Alas, it just wasn't in the cards. It did grade bump to a 9.6 and those inky back cover fingerprints are no longer there. So, technically, I won, but it feels a little like winning first runner-up. After: So, @sportshort, even a win can sometimes feel like you lost, but I'm still happy with the outcome. The fingerprints are gone and I ended up with a book where the focus is on the signature and not the grade... as it should be. In hindsight, I should have just had the signature verified by Beckett and not had the book graded, but the lure of a potential 9.8 SS book was just too great. I'd probably do the same thing again. |

I hear their hourly rate is outrageous! | sportshort private msg quote post Address this user

It makes some sense since they both got the same grade. It's probably the grader's personal "style/verbiage". 002 says "few spine stress & tiny wear top spine breaks color" 001 says "couple small spine stress & tiny wear top spine breaks color" |

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. | flanders private msg quote post Address this user
Looking at those photos and the grader's notes, you should be happy with the 9.6s.

A press screen is $10. A press is $15 without a discount code. Save your $10 and just get the books pressed. Also, press screens are usually not covered by the discount, if applicable. |

@Briten do you mind sharing the grading notes on your ASM 129 ? Seems like you got beat up pretty bad on it. Even with the writing it looks like a 3.0 minimum. Are there rusty staples or something? |

@ComicNinja0215 Nice! I have all of "Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil that Men Do" signed by Kevin from when I was ~15/16. I doubt they'd be above 8.5's at this point but I am thinking of sending them in. |

I can't remember who said it but the line was " CBCS has the best holder on the market" and all of these pics prove it.

Two books came back yesterday. Both were gifts that I had graded, so I can't begrudge either of them. The first one is Rawhide Kid 93. I'm a little disappointed in the 7.5 grade. I had hope it would have performed better than that. However, those Marvel Westerns are notoriously tough in higher grades and those right hand cover creases didn't do it any favors. I'll upgrade it given the opportunity. I was hoping for a 9.0 on the Ringo Kid 12, but I'll take the 8.5. I has really good eye appeal. It's a keeper unless a nicer copy just falls into my lap. |
