@Frontier2Xterra, I’m looking for a new set of insulated or neoprene waders for the fall. I’m out of touch on gear in my he past 10 years. Obviously you like simms but I’m not sure if that’s coooold water, any advice would be great.

@HeinzDad it all depends on usage and individual. Personally I like thinner waders for mobility and just layer underneath if needed. Also, I then only need one set of waders instead of 2. I was out in 30* with water to belly and warm wearing the waders, sweat pants, wool socks, thermals, hoody and also had a jacket if needed. Was comfortable all day. I use to have a pair of the thick neoprene from frogg toggs. They will keep you warm but you’ll hate them in summer or on the days where it’s freezing in the morning and warm in afternoon.

If you want a cheaper pair, frogg toggs are good. The aforementioned simms tributary that I have is also on sale in a few places for about 150-175. But you’ll need boots with them.

@HeinzDad No problem my friend. Here is a link to the mentioned frogg toggs. These are not the ones I had failure issues with. Just too thick and hot for my liking. Don’t let the price at the frogg toggs site scare you. You can find them much cheaper after some shopping around.

Notice the sweatshirt change. May or may not have slipped. Only me, the fish, and some squirrel know the truth. Lol

I was thinking "Florida Man frog" but maybe Florida Man photographer is more likely.

@RexMuff

The fish got greedy was my take. He had the frog, but went after the lure to get more. I could be wrong but it's the fishes fault it got away.

My boat was in need of replacement compasses....like for like
Out with old in with the new x2!!!

After 40ish yrs the old failed...will install the new ones in the spring! (minus 12 today...not going anywhere near the boat!)

Can't get covers for these but since I have the old ones I think I'll make a fiberglass cover with them as the plug?

Keeping this active. Have a trip coming up in a few weeks. Haha. Anyone familiar with Clifton Maine know any good fly fishing spots?

Gonna try in a week or so. The water level is at flood stage but dropping.

Edit: hopefully I'll come up with a few walleye for you.

Caught these this past Sunday. We caught about 40 white perch and a couple of crappie. We kept 18 total to have a little fish fry.

#FroggToggTestFriday. It’s been 15+ years since I’ve been in sub 40 degree water temps. My privates just might plum disappear.

It’s official. I have an inny now. 3.5 hours in the water with nothing to show for it. It’s been mid to upper 50’s the last 2 days. The “feels like” temp was 29 when I got out of the water. I did get to watch the bald eagle family that nests not far from my homey’s house.

I swear, if I don’t catch a damn fish soon I’m starting the “Fisherman’s Tail” thread. Because all I have is a tale..

We had beautiful weather today but the river was high af. Just walking to it I realized it would be a lost cause. A 3/8 oz weight is standard give or take an eight oz. After one cast I switched to 5/8 and still never felt the bottom. Add to all that a random current change and a guy starts swaying that was perfectly planted.

Dry out the gear for my next Fisherman’s Tail.

Do you have any buddies with a boat? Would that help?

CBCS Boomhauer HeinzDad private msg quote post Address this user
That would scare me more than standing in it as far as I did. Ultimately one can walk across this river in august where I’m fishing. It’s not that deep everywhere. When it’s 8-10 ft deep though, tread with caution.
