It's funny. I set up at 3 comic cons this year. First year I have ever sold at cons. I had an entire box of Harley Quinn related comics including Gotham City Sirens, but wasn't for sure if I had sold or traded them. I knew I had 5 copies of Gotham City Sirens #1 at the beginning of the year and a complete run set. When they announced the new movie, I saw #1 jump from $20 to $50 to $80, $100 and now $110-$150. All in a matter of a few weeks. I went to my storage unit last week praying that I had an issue left. Well turns out I still had them all. No one bought them! And the kicker is that I had $15 on all the issue #1 and $3 on all the other issues. LOL! I was able to trade off three #1's for 2 long boxes of Silver Age books and kept 2. This is probably the craziest price jump I have ever seen for a comic. I mean it went up nearly ten times in less than 2 weeks. Were any of you able to get this book before the giant price hike? |

It's amazing what film and TV have done to the value of comics. The big question is; are we in a bubble? Will this last? Comics have never been hotter. Financial Advisors are suggesting to invest in comics as they are way out performing the stock market. Can it last?

I believe that golden, silver and even bronze books will always rise in value forever but modern books with this variant craze I feel is Going to crash the market like the 90s

...and I agree with you. They will always trend upwards in value. The trajectory of the trend may vary in sharpness but I believe it will always be upward. The variant craze of today is very reminiscent of the 90s foil/embossed cover craze. The difference being that the variant craze of today are actually published in lesser quantities for the most part I believe. |

I remember every first issue Marvel put out in the 90's was a "First Issue Collector's Item". Boy, was I a dumb 10 year old back then. No value but some fun reads.

I think the key difference here is that some of these variants are ACTUALLY rare (say a 1:100 would mean less than a thousand made). In the 90s, everyone was speculating; but "collectible" did not mean rare. In fact millions of "collectible" issues were produced, and are now about worthless. That bubble exploded. The key difference is rarety vs demand. There are books out there that are skyrocketing in price due to extreme demand like in the 90s; but they are not rare, and thus those prices will burst at some point. The ones that are actually rare should continue to hold value @GAC You're correct, the publishers seem to have learned their lesson and some of these variants are actually scarce, produced in lower quantities |

Tricky question. Rare is always relative to demand. In the 90s there were million pront runs that were actually rare at the time because everyone wanted one and there werent enough to go around. But, to directly answer your question, I have no clue ![]() |

@BrianGreensnips It's the Harley Quinn spin-off movie which will incorporate other female DC characters (probably Catwoman and Poison Ivy). It's being fast-tracked into production after the popularity of Margot robbie as Harley Quinn and is set to be directed by David Ayer, who also ran Suicide Squad into the ground, and is being written by a new screenwriter without much of a track record.
