What are those? They must be archival safe if the LoC is using them right? if they are as rigid as a backing board I would rather condense what Iโ€™m buying and use those for storage.

I donโ€™t think they would be all that useful absent the process applied first. Also, aside from doing an excellent job of preserving the paper itself, the LOCโ€™s condition standards are going to be lower than most anal-retentive private collectors. Just look at how that Batman 1 is being held and that bottom left corner.

Also, for those interested, MSU has a comic collection nearly 3x the size of the LOC. Crazy, right?

What the LoC uses (link above):
โ€œIn addition to preserving comic books, Preservation Technologies has helped develop a better way to store them. In conjunction with Library of Congress conservators, Bob Strauss, vice president of marketing for the company, developed a see-through sleeve that protects the comic books from unnecessary handling.

"The comic books come to us in older boxes with a minimal-level cataloging record," Strauss said. "Here, they're put into an archival folder that's like an envelope with a clear front and a bar code on the back, so they're getting deacidified and rehoused at the same time." The treated comics are catalogued and returned to the Library of Congress in locked containers.โ€œ
