To OPEN or leave SEALED?17311

I AM... THE Bat-Manuel MurrayC private msg quote post Address this user
So, I bought a couple of the Wal-Mart DC comic packs that have reprints of Batman comics with new covers featuring Robert Battinson (see what I did there?)

I can't decide whether to OPEN the packs with the idea of pressing and submitting for grading, or, just leave the comics sealed in the packs?

What would YOU do?

I open them. Need to see if there’s anything else cool in there.

Is what it's sealed in archival safe?

I'd open them to see the coolness inside. Also, it'll save the books should the shrinkwrap encounter enough ambient heat to start shrinking again. Yes, that can happen.

Keep them closed. Because everyone else will open theirs.

It's from Wal-Mart, so my guess is "no"

Then it's not good for long term storage.....

What fascinates me is the ones from the 1970's that are in great shape. There was one with a Bat 251 in it not long ago on EBay. That was a gorgeous book.

I found 2 long boxes from almost 40 years ago with a bunch of bronze House Of Secrets etc. They look none the worse for wear. Been in the same bag with the same board for decades.

This really is what the primary consideration should be if condition means anything to you. I know when ever someone is selling some old comic in the original bag, I’m not thinking to myself “oh, cool it’s in the original bag,” I’m thinking “I wonder what the condition of the book is being in that bag all this time.” 🤔

Steve called it right..for me I generally would get one to keep sealed , perhaps to flip at a later date if I can before too long goes by. Anything else gets opened and rebagged and boarded

I open them because all the 90’s books I left in sealed bags are creased and people want them graded these days anyway

TAT's are bad enough already. My vote is leave it sealed and never submit it.

I know your pain! The bag doesn’t really matter though. Condition is king every time.

They're all bagged and boarded. Unfortunately, the Wonder Girl has some dings and dents that may not come out in a press

I was ecstatic when my Spider-Verse 1 came back 9.9; I had the single highest graded Walmart variant for about a month 🤨
