Here are two solid candidates. #230 and #237. (Both are my copies). #221 was a sleeper cover for me and noticed it one day last year and had to have it while ignoring it for years. Then earlier this year well, it became #230. Solid cover. Middling innards. Gang leader with the heart of gold angle. etc. But the cover is actually pretty intense. #237 should be a lot more expensive than it is. I mean look: Writers Dennis O'Neil, Bernie Wrightson & Harlan Ellison Pencils Neal Adams Inker Dick Giordano Letterer John Costanza Editor Julius Schwartz Plus took place in a town 20 miles from where I live. Halloween story and yet it's a rather affordable issue in mid/high grade. Overall, I like the cover to 237 better than 230 but 230 is a killer image as well. 237 has Hans about to go to work on Robin - who in these Adams stories and in the filler stories - behaves like he's never had a moments worth of training. Getting his ass kicked in by college students? Anyhoo. #237 for me. ![]() ![]() |

Quote:Originally Posted by sborock Agreed, with the Phantom Stranger and the precode horror-ish style cover art, that is a solid sleeper imo. Other sleeper Adam's bat book is Bat 231, black power/racial theme cover & story. Can't think of any other Adam's books that haven't already seen significant jumps in interest/FMV, than those 2. |

Might be my favorite B&B Adams Bat cover. I dunno, though. That "Bork" cover is pretty crap grappling.![]() |

Quote:Originally Posted by HexView Yes, I thought of that book but it doesn't have the PCH cover vibe to it...."the arms coming from the beyond" and the Phantom Stranger carrying Robin's lifeless body pops out as PCH horror-esque to me. That Brave n Bold / HOM cover is more like other gothic Adam's covers from the late 60's/early 70's. A lot of the hotter PCH covers have surreal and other worldly feels to them...World's Of Fear #10 (floating eyeballs...I think it's #10 offhand but of you collect PCH, you know what I'm referening.) Other examples would be William Elkgren PCH covers, which were virtually psychedelia. |
