Both include 1st appearances of two significant characters. GL 87 saw a leap in value due to the BLM movement. To me, the better cover is GL 87. Although the Infantino/Roussos cover is no slouch either. Especially with the teeny little Deadman in the lens of the sniper's sights. The better 1st appearance (IMO) is Deadman. What a sleeper character. With people's interest in the occult these days, there's a LOT that could be done with a tv series. I have heard talk about it but haven't seen anything. Even though I love Neal Adam's art, I am not a fan of his writing for the most part. But he seems to have a love for Deadman and both the Strange Adventures Deadman run and the more recent series are actually really good reads. Glad to own both these copies. The criteria I used to buy the GL book was it needed to include all of Hal's foot. It was harder than I thought it would be to find a copy like that. I loved the Strange Adventures series so much I determined to buy SS graded copies of all in mid to high grade and completed that last year. There were surprisingly ample copies of all except for 211 at the time. Had a hard time finding one and eventually found a CGC 8.5 white pager. ![]() ![]() |

Personally I prefer strange adventures. John Stewart always struck me as being arrogant in the justice league animated series cartoon. Because of that I never pursued getting his first appearance. But aside from that the Deadman cover just looks well done in my opinion. The green lantern looks pretty poorly done for a neal adams cover.... maybe I'm used to looking at cool batman books though..... |

My take is no Neal Adams fan has a complete collection without the original Justice League +94

205 is great but I wouldn't want one with Neal's sig - maybe 206 though!! Infantino is 100% on any top comic artist list anyone wants to put together!! ![]() |

Quote:Originally Posted by Bronte That's a good take. A few days ago, I was actually thinking of posting a "Suckiest Neal Adams Covers" thread for a hoot. Maybe I will. I can think of several. In this book, Stewart was an "angry black man". The cover smacks of racism in hindsight now, but was meant to be representative of what was going on at the time. "Not gonna hide behind no mask", they "whipped" the Green Lantern (little on the nose, there), "I ain't decided if I WANNA be a Green Lantern" and so forth. Plus, only the second appearance of Guy Gardner. 4 years in between appearances of another "arrogant" character. Is "Arrogant" just this side of "Uppity"? Who can say? |

I had to make the allowance even though it was like Stan Lee signing a Batman book. Figured I'd start with that one and get another one later but how? I never saw a signed Infantino or even Roussos copy and Neal commenced with 207. 206 is a mess of a cover. Glad Neal took over after that. |

Both covers are great, but the Infantino cover tells a story (as most Infantino covers do) and the Adams cover, while nice enough, does not. My vote for Strange Adventures #205. I have both of these books, too, and they are both so mangled. They were 'just fill the hole in the collection!' buys. ![]() |

I love DC horror so SA #205 all the way. I bought mine years ago when they were still cheap. That's it below. With that said, a nice GL #87 in VF+ or better has been on my list for a long time. I see them from time to time but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. One day. ![]() |

They aren't $500 anymore. ![]() That was simply a book I had to get to complete the Adams GLGA run I wanted. I believe 76 and 87 are the most expensive ones to get still. Drug issues are undervalued, IMO. |

I dont think Neal had anything to do with 205, so no sig on that book in my opinion. I think he came on at 206 if I recall correctly. I have both NA/Denny O'Neil runs of GL/GA and the run of Strange Tales. My opinion is that you can't go wrong with either of them. I would probably go with the Deadman as I just find the character to be more interesting than yet another Green Lantern. PDG |

Adams - I eventually rationalized - is at least synonymous with the character and so I took it. I can't afford to buy another 8.0 or higher with prices being as wonky as they are now so this one is mine. |

Time to buy either one if these was like 3+ years ago, ship has sailed on getting either one at a flippable profit.

I completed my run of the GLs about thirty years ago - then my 76 was stolen and I replaced it probably five years ago now. I had Neal sign my 76 and 87 in 2017. I finished up my Deadman run from Strange Adventures 205- the end of whatever issues Neal did. I didn't have those at the time I met Neal, but would love to have him sign a few of those if I could. Either way, I am glad I have both of those runs. Just like @ComicHoarder said, ship has sailed on these books for the time being. PDG |

Something made me think CGC would honor the certificates that come with books coming straight from Neal. At this point given TAT, it sounds like a tremendous hassle so I'm out as far as getting any slabbed and graded. But he will certainly send signed books back. I'd be into that. |
