You weren't. You were simply asking about them. Some, who apparently think mole hills are acceptable, are just in auto-defense mode.

They shouldn't be there. Hopefully the company figures out the fix. It is disappointing.

I don’t know why you’d say I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill. I simply asked if it was normal scuffing or something else. At $125 per book I gotta admit I was a bit disappointed to see scuffs on the front and back of the cases. You say they are barely visible but I’d have to disagree.

Anyway, now that I know there’s a possible fix I’ll give it a try.

That was not directed at you. You were simply asking the question and it's a perfectly appropriate question to ask.

The fella that suggested "Maguire's Plastix" is correct. It does indeed improve the look of the case. So if you've had a recently returned sub with similar scuff issues, this product does work. I ordered it from Amazon for around 6 bucks and it works, on headlights as well. It shouldn't have to come this but it is a solution if you've had a similar experience. So give it a shot. As previously stated the scuff issue is not present on every book but when it is...it's noticeable. Very noticeable. Anyway, CBCS has overall preformed well in my experience, I love the CBCE case and trust the grade, even when it hurts. The scuff issue might be a just a few random bugs but when you wait for months or years, or pay extra to get your comics back quickly, you expect a quality product. So when they show up clouded with scuffs, it's natural to have a negative response. So there..CBCS has the best case for many reasons. Sleek design. Rigid strength and above all..clarity.
Books look good in this case. That's what I want and that's what I'm paying for. All arguments otherwise are ridiculous. So if you're one of the few with similar scuff issue, check out Maguire's Plastix..no I don't work for Maguire's or hold stock in that company but it does work. Hopefully you won't need to use it.

With all due respect GAC, you are backpedaling because you got called out. Your "making mountains out of a molehill" comment was rather immature to say the least and it was directed towards those who have been having the issue with their cases and pointing it out here due to being disappointed and upset but we have every right to be. As you stated you haven't had the issue personally so why belittle those with your comments that are having issues with their cases? I spent nearly $2K in signature fees and grading costs to have 30 books all show up with scratched/scuffed cases and I, and others like me, should shrug our shoulders and just accept it? You also mentioned buyers wouldn't notice. Really? If you bought a graded comic that looked like the images attached of one of the books I got back, would you be ok with it or would you contact the seller and demand a refund? I suspect the latter. I really hope you and the other naysayers never have this issue with your slabs, I really do. I tried the Plastix today that another user pointed out, sorry, didn't fix the issue at all. In fact one of my cases appears to have fingerprints inside the case. Up until this invoice of books, I have never had an issue like this before from CBCS, and I hope the several other books that I have in processing don't have this issue either. I will know Wednesday when the next batch of books arrive but none of these books should have made it past quality control. If this is an isolated incident due to some sort of equipment failure during the production process or a bad batch of cases, hopefully it is corrected soon.

certainly not ' a mole hill' issue. Some people are happy to ignore defects both with CBCS and the dark side graders (such as Newtons Rings) but other people find this an unwelcome addition to their slabs.

As a dealer i've had multiple customers complain about this problem and, as mentioned i also fed this concern back many months ago but had no answers.

Sadly, at present, the crystal clear cases aren't living up to their billing. With these 'scuff' marks on virtually every slab there are also recurring scratch marks on most of the slabs being received. On the front of the cases down the bottom right and about 2 inches up a scratch is usually present and theres often a decent sized scratch at the top left across the label. I accept it on my personal books but when its someone elses books its harder to pass it off and ignore.

Unfortunately because this is CBCS's site, you're going to get a lot of people telling you you're overreacting over the scratches, however if CGC had the same issues the responses would be much different. You shouldn't have to put up with scratched up cases. People love to brag about CBCS's crystal clear cases and other stuff they think CBCS has over CGC, but when the one thing they love to brag about turns out to be bad the response is to downplay the issue or ignore it.

The cases with the scratches look like shit.

I work with (not for) Manufacturing in my current employment.
When Mfg. receives product from a supplier; as a piece part to make our own product, it undergoes inspection 1st.
If the inspection has findings there are essentially 4 outcomes.
Scrap
Rework
Use Up
Return to Vendor

Scrap and Rework can be extraordinarily costly to the company.
Return to Vendor is only an option if product doesn't meet specifications. ("specifications" can be tricky".)
Use Up is cheapest but the end customer takes the quality hit.

I have a suspicion that plastic cases came in from CBCS's supplier and that supplier will not accept the cases back for not meeting specification (Return to Vendor). Rather than fight the supplier, it is possible CBCS has chosen to "Use Up" the product as there is no loss of $$$ by choosing that option. Scrap and/or Rework is expensive.
I believe that CBCS is fully aware that these scratches are present on their current stock of cases.

So there ya have it. A business decision made by the business in which - we, the consumer are taking the hit.

Hopefully the supplier's future deliveries will ensure those scratches are not present and that they've taken corrective action for all incoming cases. That would be the proper action by the supplier.

@Nuffsaid111 You could be quite right in your analysis or it could be that CBCS is so focused on getting product out the door to the customer that they are letting slabs ship out with zero quality control. I don't get any satisfaction pointing out these problems, nobody does, but it has to be called out. If the issue isn't corrected soon, customers will jump to the other guys, despite they having issues with their cases at times as well. I was hoping that this was an isolated incident with my previous order but the other I was expected this Wednesday actually showed up today. This was a second batch of books that I had sent in for the recent Tynion/Dell'Edera signing. All of the cases in this batch have the scratches as well, some worse than that. here is the back of one of my Something is Killing the Children #1 cover "A" books. White circles all over the place and all of these are INSIDE the case. On the front are the row of scratches and even fingerprints, again inside the case. Do people not wear gloves during the grading/encapsulation process? This is unacceptable, no one would accept this any other way, and no one would buy anything like this on the secondary market.

My bet is that on this slab, with shavings in the outer well and tye circles of dots inside the holder, that CBCS would reholder it for free.

I don't think they are fingerprints though, not sure what they are but fingerprints would be lines.

Those look like dots, but you're def right they are about the size of fingerprints-just not the shape.

@Kinsella5 - Those look conspicuously about the same size and pattern of large bubble wrap. Never seen it before myself on/in a slab. I would think that they would reholder.

@Track17 - So, as others have noted, it is not normal, but quickly remedied. Never had the issue until they went to the Sonic weld encasements. There was a short period where it was there were several instances noted and seemed to have been addressed. The submissions I got back in This year before yours were crystal clear with no mars.

Yes these circular impressions aren't fingerprints, the ones I see are on the front of the slab, not in these photos, these circles are in the inside back of the cover. The vertical scratches outlined my earlier posting are also on both sides of the cases too. I did think that perhaps the bubble wrap impressions could be it as another member here just pointed out, however if that was the case, how would these impressions be inside the case and not outside and I would think the would be all over the back, whereas these are around the middle and the top portion of the slab.

@Kinsella5 - I assumed it was inside and I was thinking that perhaps the encasement made contact with bubblewrap pre-completion. Maybe via supplier or at CBCS as I don’t think any of us have seen that before.

And before a couple of the more venomous members jump my $#!+, not making excuses, just speculating as to what it is and how it happened. QC should have caught it and will hopefully figure out how it happened to prevent in future.

If it were only a book or two in an order of 25 books, then I'd say it was a careless mistake. These scratches are occurring on nearly all of these poster's submissions. That's not a mistake, but seems like they're taking short cuts to get the books out.

So people are getting their books cleaned and pressed in hopes of squeezing out a 9.8, should they be okay with a few scratches on their slabs? People are as anal with their slabs as they are with the grades. Scratches on an otherwise perfect slab is about as irritating as a misspelled work on the label.

Expecting customers to polish out the scratches on the plastic is ridiculous since it shouldn't have been there in the first place. People aren't just paying for the number on the corner of the slab. They're also paying for a very presentable slab.

Recommending a car polish to buff out the scratches on the slab is like telling someone to use a label maker to correct an incorrect label.
