There isn't a set day, and the status changes rarely. When the TATs were faster you could sometimes see the end of the process go by (grading, labels, heat seal, shipping) from day to day but nowadays there's plenty of time between all of those, if the order gets updated for all of them at all.

My guess is you either got them pressed or they were on the same invoice with books that are not 2-day. If the latter is what it is you always want to create separate invoices for tier levels so they ship separately. Otherwise, all books will ship when they are completed. If it was pressed please say it in your post because we all know pressing is about a year just for that and then time for grading. You will want to get books pressed prior by a third party before sending to CBCS or another grading service.

Did we all know that pressing was going to be a year when we did our first submission? Don't remember that being mentioned anywhere. Now, after nearly a year, I find out. When you're filling out the form, that's one of the things they push, the pressing. They have a pop-up reminding/suggesting "pressing" but they don't have a pop-up that says that pressing is going to take a year.

The slabs I've received back, so far, look great. I'm not sure they're wait-a-year-plus great. As of right now, personally, I doubt that there will be any future submissions, by me.

@Caffeine_Kid - It's kind of a joke thing. When the Moderator see's something amusing or funny posted by a member, he may update the avatar. In other cases, like mine, something about that forum member may prompt him to make a slogan. Mine being...well obvious. He had another member as "Forum Mascot" and then "Former Forum Mascot".

Ok so again dumb question I know I'm full of them lol

When I did my submission it didn't let me Pic a different speed for pressing... with that being said I did the 3rd tier speed (non press 5 day TAT) does my pressing go to thst speed automatically as I can't get ahold of anyone in customer support but it didn't give me a higher priced pressing and they charged my account and didn't say anything about it.. sooo just trying to see if I can assume a 96 day TAT in press and a 5 TAT on grading ( I know I submitted after the guarantee but wouldn't mind waiting if needed ) orrrr the super long TAT for regular pressing..

Hey, newbie question that I haven't seen covered at least in the last few pages of this thread. What is the typical turnaround time that you find out that your books have been received after submitting through a convention?

I submitted mine to a convention on 3/19 and haven't heard a peep. I know the TATs are huge these days so I didn't think of anything for awhile. But eventually it did sort of make me nervous that my comics were in a bit of a blackhole. On the website it says that there is a confirmation of receipt typically sent within a couple of days or a week. So I sent a note to customer service. I got an auto-reply that generated a ticket number, but a couple weeks since then I have heard nothing.

Is anything about this typical? I was going to call but thought I would check in here in first, especially if the advice is that calling in would be a waste of time. Again, I totally understand that TATs are through the roof and I'm not necessarily looking to get my submissions back anytime soon. I just want some acknowledgement that they are where they are supposed to be.

One additional point that might be valuable, I submitted these for signature verification. I realize that could make the TAT even longer, but not sure why that would impact the acknowledgement of receipt notification.

@Fil from what I understand and I could be wrong any book submitted and recieved prior to April 1st is subject to a super long TAT as it was prior to the guarantee that cbcs put out so depending kn the tier you picked etc could be around a year plus if you got it pressed etc..

Didn't get pressing. Just signature verification and grading. It was just modern tier, so I am not expecting them back anytime soon. Even at the time I was anticipating 6+ months, and it sounds like it could easily be a year. But that's not really what I'm worried about.

I might be going crazy. I really just want to know if I should get a notice from CBCS that the comics made it from the convention to their facility. I very specifically remember reading this on their website when I looked it up a couple weeks ago. I remember there being a phrase along the lines of "this is when the clock starts" on your turnaround time. But now I go to the website and it looks like almost any mention of submitting books through conventions and getting a notice of when it has been received has been scrubbed. I guess I'll be calling the phone number tomorrow to see what I can find out.

@Fil so they got my books delivered on the 11th per FEDEX tracking however they didn't mark them as recieved until the 13th I did get an email but did you submit them under your own account or did you have someone else submit it for you I.E. I know at the con I went to recently the 1 cgc guy would ship them for you under his account and have them mailed back to you directly.. so honestly if it was under your name you should see an email or a submission under your account info if Joe stuffy did it then he will receive all the email traffic

At the convention it was similar to the 1 cgc scenario you are describing where they were all collected/submitted together but returned to my individual address. There were three people at the CBCS booth. One of them walked me through the paperwork and cost for the services. I have gotten no correspondence since I submitted, and my profile for CBCS is not showing any orders or comics listed. That is why I am concerned to ensure my comics are actually at CBCS.

@Fil did you get contact info for the booth try calling them if not then I'm not sure what to tell you honestly I never tracked any sent via a con just guessed I'd get them in about 8 months or so

@Fil the best place to look for newbie info is the first couple pages of the newbie 101 thread at the top of the forum list. Convention submissions are dated to the Wednesday after the convention (that's when your TAT starts) but currently it's taking a while to have them show up on your dashboard. If you use one of the express options it might appear in a week or less but standard orders have been taking a month or two.

This is not a new concept. It's always been that the more money you are willing to pay, the quicker you get your books back. The only thing that has changed is that CBCS is now guaranteeing that express orders will be done in a certain length of time. And yes, those orders will bump back the slower orders. But again, it's always been that way. No one should be surprised by this fact.

You're not wrong, but this is not expressly written anywhere on the site. My assumption was that there were just two tracks of books and they processed them something like, for every 5-10 fast pass/higher tier submissions they did maybe one standard submission. So standard submissions were moving slower but they were still moving. I also assumed they had the math worked out so the standard tiers would still get done in around the TAT they set forth. Which for many of us, was around 12-17 weeks. But now, with the Express tiers in play, our books can sit indefinitely and we have no option to modify our submission or get our books back. We're not getting what we paid for regardless of how much or how little we paid. I think it's plenty fair to be surprised that my 17 week estimate is now approaching 40 weeks, and that if I submitted books today with the new Express tier, I'd pay about double, and get my books back 16x faster. A price I would have gladly paid had my crystal ball been working properly last summer.

just to give people an update to current turn around times:

I submitted 14 books at a con 7/31/21, 1 for just grading, 13 press and grade (none fast pass).

They all seemed to be received in the system around 8/21/21.

I just received the 1 non-pressed comic book back on 5/14/22, so about 9.5 months TOT for grading.

All the books that need pressing and grading are still just in received and I believe none have been pressed yet.

@Supertom Agree with you 1000% I submitted in August, 17 weeks tat, If i had any idea they were going to start guarenteeing certain tiers and rejig the thing. I would have paid fast pass or just held on to my books. But like you said we have no crystal balls and this just all kicks our subs farther back. If they started promoting it 4 months ahead instead of like 1 week, you could have made a better informed decision. I still dont understand why they even put a tat on a regular submission. It isnt an estimate or any type of timeline they intended to keep.

I did start at newbie 101 and that's where I found "Once you have mailed in your books or dropped them off at the convention, the next step is to wait. You will receive an email once the books are officially received at the CBCS Offices. This is usually the day after CBCS receives the package, if you mailed them in, or about a week or more after the convection ends if you dropped them off at the convention."

So what I'm hearing is that it is not unusual that the receipt email is taking much than a day or week, and that not having gotten any email 2 months after the convention submission should not be alarming?
