I submitted two books at the Gem City CC in July 2021. CBCS show them received on 9/30/2021. One was Modern submission Iron Man #118 signed by Bob Layton. I also paid for signature verification and fast pressing. The charges were broken down this way: Tier: $18.00 Verified $25.00 Fast Pressing $18.00 My 2nd book was Fantastic Four #52 signed by Joe Sinnott. I paid for Quickstream, signature verification and pressing. The charges broke down this way: Quickstream tier: $58.00 Verified: $25.00 Pressing: $40.00 My question - how does the services I paid for relate to their new service categories and pricing? For example, does Quickstream equal Express? All replies are greatly appreciated. By the way, Iron Man #118 status just changed to Grading, the FF #52 still at Received. Thanks! |

So I got an email that said my books were graded earlier today, but the cbcs home page hasn't updated with the grade. Some were prescreen so that might be the issue (extra charges for grading or not getting grade). Has anyone else had this issue/used prescreen?

@cbusch1 you can't see your grades until the order ships. If you had prescreen you should get charged between now and then for whatever books get graded.

1. When does CBCS determine the FMV in the grading process? They reserve the right to change the FMV and charge more, but with TAT at 1 year or more, the FMV might be substantially higher at the end of the process vs the submission date. 2. Even if the FMV doesn't increase substantially, what is the FMV based on? Is it the raw value of the book (which is the state it's in when submitted), or the future value after it's been slabbed? If the latter, does CBCS determine the often lower FMV of CBCS slabs vs CGC slabs. (That last statement is not a criticism but a general observation.) There's not a lot of transparency surrounding this process that I can tell. So I hope some light can be shed on this topic. Thanks all. |

CBCS must have two or more "teams" working submittals now. A modern pre-screen order that I shipped on Saturday, 5/7/22 got to Dallas on Tuesday, 5/10/22, was marked as "Received" on Wednesday, 5/11/2022 and I got an email today that the books are graded. I was able to see what made it and what was rejected on the invoice so the pre-screen is definitely done. Now I have several orders in the system - 13 to be exact - with the oldest a pre-screen modern from 8/23/21 and yet this new one is almost ready to ship. CBCS must be attacking all the new submittals while they try to whittle down the backlog. Anybody know why they have the 100 book limit on orders now? My thinking is that these 100 book orders - and less - are much more manageable than some of the 200 to 300 book orders that I would regularly submit. Strange stuff going on here... |
