Well, I guess I may have a shot at owning an Action Comics’ #1

My only issue with this is how accurate is the verification that this actually came from an AC1?

Grader notes: front cover # piece only
paper stuck to back

So, how is this treated for census purpose and will we see more fragments come up for auction?

Here's the listing. I wouldn't spend eight bucks on it let alone eight hundred!!!

@DrWatson why? The most fundamental service CGC/CBCS provides is authentication.

If they are the experts, why would they not authenticate something like this?

Same would be done for a fragment of a historic work of art. An AC1, even a fragment like this, is historically important.

Whoever decided to slab this has a sense of humor (same with whoever buys it). I just hope it came from a scrap book or an utterly destroyed cover… and that it is indeed authentic.

As for value, if silly “newstand” variants of books produced in the thousands can command $ thousands, or “9.9” grades on mundane books get hundreds, this is easily five figures. Almost art in itself haha.

(no, I would not pay five or necessarily even four figures… but I also wouldn’t pay $$$ for the examples above…)

Marginally better than the dime bag of Action Comics #1 shavings that went up a little while back

Authentication is fine, but I doubt the pages are White.

That label shouldn’t be blue, it should be green for incomplete. The grader’s note should be something along the line of: affect story.

Ok. I didn't want to go here, but here I go. How can anyone believe that this is from an actual AC1 after what CGC did with the "invisible comics"? Does anyone know if any other comics from the 40's or 50's used the same font and cover color? With it saying "paper stuck on back" you can't even go by what is supposed to be on the back of the cover!!! It figures that the same auction house that sold those AC1 paper strips is selling this.

@EbayMafia those old AC’s keep white pages nicely. The owner probably used it for Rummikub and kept it in a box. Perfect for “White Pages”…

So if I get a replica AC1 and glue this over the “1” can I get an Action Comics 1 purple label? I’ll take “extensive restoration, pieces added.”

Based on the Hulk 1 cover fragment, this “1” could be worth a fortune!

Any practice that encourages a seller to damage a book in hopes of making more money should be discouraged.

I can understand disembodied covers and dismembered pages because someone can have a hope of Frankensteining a complete book that way, but... this is like... WTF?!
