Anyone see THE BATMAN (no spoilers)17045

Wife and I watched it last knight (pun). Enjoyed it. Thought Patterson played a very different Batman really like him in the role. The plot was kind of weak. My favorite part is the Bat mobile, that car was bad ass. Anyone else see it or going to see it

Saw it yesterday. Agree with your thoughts, Bat-mobile was cool, as was the chase scene. I liked it. Might see it again. Saw it at AMC and they gave out a promo comic. |

Did anyone else get a nagging question repeating in their head during the movie: "is EVERYONE in this movie Superman?" Batman stands in front of a giant exploding fireball that blows him backwards about five feet...not even a scratch on his face. Penguin is in a car chase that ends with the car landing on the ground upside-down...next scene, not a scratch on his face, clothes are pressed and clean like he just got out of the makeup chair. Batman is shot with powerful automatic weapons over a dozen times...yes, he's wearing Kevlar but not even a wince of pain or a stumble? There were some beautiful shots, and an interesting twist on Batman's origin story, but when the stakes are taken away and everyone's invulnerable the whole thing just kinda lays drab and bland. Another example of DCU films emphasis on spectacle and dreariness at the cost of character development and dramatic urgency. They even use an element of Heath Ledger's Joker character that lent a really scary air in Nolan's The Dark Knight, which here just seems like another lazy crutch the director uses because he can think of no other way to build atmosphere that doesn't involve filming everything in 3/4 shadow.

I thought it was brilliant, but I'm sure that's not the consensus. IMO it played out like a graphic novel on screen. Perhaps people find the Bat's character development and Bruce's depiction a bit bland, but if you've heard interviews with the director and are familiar Year Two, it's kind of the point. Thought that Pattinson looked great (Bale was a better Wayne, but Pattinson was a better Batman), and the Kravitz/Dano/Farrell casting was perfect. Special props to the Riddler performance, no spoilers here but the payoff for a 3-hour movie was perfect IMO. Most enjoyable comic book movie I've watched in a long time, but I'm not much of a Marvel fan. The only critique I have is that the pacing to start the movie was a bit slow, but I thought that again, the payoff made it worth it. Yes it's long, dramatic and quite different from anything that we've seen, but I think that the Gotham Noir aesthetic is a fresh take on the World's Greatest Detective. |

I started watching it on TV last night wondering why I never knew Batman was a vampire??? then I realized it was actually Twilight I was watching.... Oh well....HBO Max time when it comes on....maybe. In the meantime I am going to enjoy watching the classic George Clooney version of Batman. |

Saw it last night with my sons 14 and 19. There’s not much to spoil. I was watching a cross between Twilight and The Crow minus the rape scene. As the gentleman above said, I agree that Pattinson was a better Batman than Bale, but Bruce Wayne not on your life. Kravitz did a good job, Farrell was good, and the Riddler was great. I was going to post last night, but I wanted to sleep on it and process more. Fine movie, but had zero stay power on me. I’ll likely never watch it again. Oh and I hated the Alfred character if that matters. |

I liked it a lot. If Catwoman’s cowl had been leather and the nose on Batman’s cowl had been more like a nose instead of a bondage strap it would have been perfect. Seriously though, Kravitz was awesome and so was Penquin. The whole dang movie was really well done. |

I AM... THE Bat-Manuel | MurrayC private msg quote post Address this user
I got to see it early in a free preview screening through my LCS. It certainly DOES live up to the hype. My only non-spoiler complaint is that Batman skulks around all moody and slow like we see in the trailers throughout the ENTIRE movie which makes for a dragged out experience (until he leaps into action and then his speed seems humanly impossible) I was worried about Zoe Kravitz being the weak link performance wise compared to the other actors in the film, but she holds her own quite nicely. She was the purrrfect choice for Pattinson |

just saw it. I admit....had my doubts with Robert Pattinson.....but he was pretty darn good. The story was very good. It felt like a mix of Long Halloween, Hush (mostly the animated movie) and The Telltale Batman games. I liked it focused more on the detective aspect of Batman with one big battle at the end. Colin Farrall was a great Penguin. I dont know where I rank it among Batman movies or where I rank Pattinson...but they were both one of the best. |

Watched it this morning. For the most part I liked it. It definitely had more of a detective story and film noir vibe that I was picking up. Still plenty of action. If I had a criticism, it would be why is every Batman villain in film some grand agent of chaos? It seems like that has been the thing for a while now.
