Is Spider-Woman happening?17005

I award you no points! stanley_1883 private msg quote post Address this user
So I read that Olivia Wilde is directing a Marvel/Sony movie and the speculation is that it’s Spider-Woman.

Thoughts? What do you think? Do you care?

I think a Spider-Woman movie could be very cool

It's bound to happen at some point - would think the animated Spider-Gwen would be first.

If it is spider woman....which one??

Spider-Woman could be very nice. The current Spider-Man films have a certain tone, but doing something different like going more gritty or noir or ramping up the creep factor would be interesting, and Spider-Woman might be a way to do that without turning off fans of the recent Spider-Man.

Julia Carpenter was the Spider-Woman that came out of the Secret Wars mini-series. I think she was even a a member of the Avengers at one point.

If it is that version. Id assume Secret Wars #6 (cameo) and #7 (first full) will skyrocket in value. which I happen to have both. so could become worth getting graded

Yup
Jessica Drew
Julia Carpenter
Gwen Stacey (spider gwen)

So when they say a a spider woman movie do they mean 1 of the 2 spider women or do they mean a spider gwen movie

Julia Carpenter has less comic baggage so they could be more free to do what they want with the character? - also had the 1st black costume which our boy Peter copied when replacing his damaged costume in SW #8

just have spider-gwen's (5th printing....but still nice but it is also signed by Latour, Renzi and Rodriguez) and Carpenter's (both as stated). edge of spider-verse Im waiting for a good time to get graded as since its signed but authenticated/witnessed (I know they are legit) would cost a bit to do so...so will wait till i get the other good none signed graded first...like secret wars 6 and 7 (if Carpenter does appear in a movie)

Think about it a little bit...you own the licenses to all the spiderverse characters....Gwen, Jessica Drew and Julia carpenter. Every time you visit a comic convention look around you at the female cosplayers.....they are all either MJ, Jessica Drew, Ghost spider or Spider Gwen......then start looking at the female attendees and who is on their t shirts and packs and phone cases and you start to realize that as much as Spiderman has become a lighting rod for comic fans and with it Miles Morales, that much and more these female characters have become for the female fanas.

I think they will continue using Spider Gwen in the animated movies, but that she will have her own live action movie soon enough. I would suggest that Jessica Drew will emerge as the most obvious choice next, because she has been the spider woman most people have known and she has an amazing costume and appearance......essentially Jessica Jones was originally meant to be Jessica Drew. She cannot be far behind I am betting

I have a super nice copy of the Edge of spiderverse 2, so I have spider Gwen covered, and I have always collected Jessica drew so thats covered, but not so much Julia carpenter.

I originally posted this in the wrong thread:
I think that small screen (Disney plus) is much more likely than big screen lead roles for a lot of these B and C list characters. Making a major motion picture is a huge production and even with unlimited money there are other resources that are limited. When you fail on the big screen it's much more public than a show failing on Disney Plus or Netflix. I suspect the results of the first few movies will cause Disney to tighten up a bit and reserve the big screen efforts for more established characters and established franchises. I think many of these characters will appear in movies...but not in leading individual roles.

The article I read said Dakota Johnson was tabbed to play Madame Web. Julia Carpenter was Madame Web at one point, but wasn't the first one. A small show I was at the following weekend already had their ASM 210 on the wall for like $200.

Will throw one more to the mix which may be a reach but thought I read somewhere that Arana (Anya Corazan)was speculated as well. I recall I had to look up to see who this character is.

There was a time that Captain America, Iron Man and Thor were all 2nd tier B-lister characters. Spider-Man, X-Men and Fantastic Four were the A-listers in the Marvel universe.

If the MCU can make these characters into household names, I believe any character has a chance on the big screen as long as Marvel continues to keep the core essence alive and well.

Madame Web is a Sony movie, so unlikely part of the MCU unless they do another deal to bring her into a future MCU movie.

Don’t Sony and Marvel/Disney have that worked out. Any Marvel character rights owned by Sony will be made with MCU to tie them together. So at worst it’s Marvel/Sony joint project.

The way I've read it, the deal was specific to Spiderman, but they have also stated there will be projects from Sony that coexist in the MCU, but its not automatic that every Marvel film Sony puts out is in the MCU.
I could be understanding it wrong, there's been a lot of different info since they did the deal in 2019.

Make sense, but I would hope Spider-Woman would be specific enough to link directly with Spider-Man

I could agree with comparisons to GOTG...but the spider-ladies have never been on the same level with Thor, Cap or Iron Man.

marvel seems to know how to make its lesser known or forgotten heroes......big deals in movies. Before Guardians movie....not many knew of star-lord, groot, rocket, gamora and drax...now they are big. before iron man movie....he wasnt much of a big deal. yeah an original avenger, debuted at the height of debuts...had major storylines but not big like spiderman
