OT; What are you eating or cooking, part 216960

Moderator Jesse_O private msg quote post Address this user
@Frontier2Xterra so do you put maple or chocolate syrup on that? LOL

@Jesse_O I go with butter and syrup. There is a local distillery that makes bourbon barrel aged maple syrup. Although I bet chocolate would be tasty.

I've never made peanut butter pancakes. Not a fan of peanut butter desserts.

I do have a pancake recipe that uses coconut flour in place of some of the regular flour. Mighty tasty.

Everything sounds good except for ginger. For some reason the taste makes me wretch.

OMG - someone brought donuts into the office - in a moment of weakness I had one and now on my 4th coffee (normally only have 2) I might be like the Flash where I can just vibrate though solid objects!!!!!

My father was a produce guy for a big grocery chain. My grandma, other grandpa, dad, and father in law all had gardens, as well as me. Ive never eaten asparagus. I also have no idea how to grow it or when to harvest. @KatKomics, it sounds like something I should check out mid life.

@HeinzDad asparagus takes some planning!! about 3 or 4 years before you can harvest - it's a perennial so once you buy the 'crowns' and get the ground prepped and have them planted they suggest 3 to 4 years of no harvest to build the root system - after that around here (southern Ontario) I can harvest from say mid May (when they first start popping up) for about 6 to 8 weeks - so end of June or early July.

My asparagus patch has been in 'production' for about 10 years - no need to replant - for about 8 weeks every spring I get 1/2 lb to a 1 lb every 2 to 3 days when it's at it's peak.

In July I let them grow (gets about 5 ft tall - very whispy branches) to put more energy back in the ground for next years crop!

Serious props to you non lazy folks that grow your own food. I have a HUGE backyard but you'll never catch me doing anything remotely productive with it....

@KatKomics, it sounds like strawberry's . We worked a patch for 5 years and I was never satisfied with the returns vs time. Grass grows there now.

only a small yard otherwise I would try Strawberry's - as is I but from the farmers market and make Jam!!! - usually too much jam so I give a few jars away! (almost done my last jar from 2021 - just in time for a new batch!!!)

@DrWatson Banana pancakes are excellent. Yum. Never tried coconut flour, though. Very interested in that.

I didn't put bananas in the pancakes. Coconut flour absorbs a lot of liquid. My recipe calls for 1 cup of AP flour. I substitute 1/3 cup of coconut flour and use 2/3 cup of AP flour.

You may want added a tablespoon or two of additional liquid to the batter. I use milk. It's a little trial and error at first. The type of flour also can make a difference. I use White Lily AP and Bob's Red Mill coconut flour.

I'll see how that works once I can get ingredients together. I love good, fluffy pancakes with some fruit. The fruit keeps me from drowning them in syrup.

I recently looked up the definitions and learned that we are a "supper" family, not a "dinner" family. Tonight for supper I was craving a bologna sandwich on white bread with a slice of buffalo jack cheese on the side.

For my grandparents, it was always breakfast, dinner, and supper.

I'm not sure when it became breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
