Today I received this email from CGC. I had sent in my Batman 442 to get signed since this was suppose to be his last signing. Of course the signing being cancelled is of no concern and his health is 100 times more important than the comic book. My thoughts are with him and his family. I hope he recovers from this last health issue. ![]() |

From what I gather, he has esophogeal cancer? People don't tend to survive that. We were all lucky to be treated to his artwork and his overall contribution to the hobby. I see already the buzzards are circling on EBay. Crisis books have suddenly more than quadrupled in "value". $600 for a SS Crisis 1 in 9.6? A month ago, they were about $100-$130. My Perez prize is an Absolute Crisis signed several times and with a Supergirl sketch in the front inside cover. Peggy Fleming Supergirl as well. Not Olivia Newton-John. That book is a keeper. |

I sent in one of his last books, Maestro #1 1:25. It needed a press so I didn't have them send it to CBCS. I'll do that after the press. @ticktocktyler I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. It's always a shame when we lose one of the greats. I hope he can continue to fight the cancer and recover. |

George has stage 3 Pancreatic Cancer. It is surgically inoperable and his estimated life expectancy is between 6 months to a year. That information was posted to his website on December 7, 2021 Last I heard he was in the hospital with an infection. |

I sent 5 books to Trinity but they still haven't said anything about cancelling and sending back the books.

I sent several books in for the CGC signing, and while the cancellation is a disappointment, it's not a problem if the event would impact George's health. I also sent an Infinity Gauntlet #1 Mexican La Mole exclusive Black Foil variant for the Clan McDonald signing, but I'm not expecting that back for a while because I asked for a press and a verification (it's also signed by Jim Starlin).

Quote:Originally Posted by ticktocktyler It's a shame, but expected. Right after Perez announced his illness signed slabbed comics were marked up by nearly double or more. I'm not normally a fan of signed comics, but thought it would be nice to get just one New Teen Titans signed copy, but I refuse to pay the asking prices. A fair price IMO would be around $200-220 for a signed non-key 9.4/9.6. |

So glad I got to meet him, just wish I had had more time. I really should have just said F-it and gone to his appearance at a fetish con in St. Pete Fl. I was a little terrified to go there, but might have been much easier to chat with him.

*Latest update Hi everyone, Last week George was in a lot of pain and we discovered it was due to an issue with his gallbladder. This caused a very serious infection. The decision was made to treat this using antibiotics and a tube to decompress the gallbladder. This went well and he has recovered from the infection. However, in the days following the drain occluded, causing pain and leakage. This was a huge quality of life issue. He was admitted back to the hospital on Sunday and the drain was replaced today. He feels much better. George, Carol and his care team have made the decision for George to be enrolled in inpatient hospice. This doesn’t mean death is imminent, it means he can spend his remaining time with his friiends and family and his wife can spend this time just being with him. This is a joy for them both. To all who have sent well wishes and kind sentiments, George would like to express his sincerest and most heartfelt thanks. To those of you who have sent me letters through my email, George has and is receiving them. This is a time during which I ask you to please respect the privacy of George and his wife. If you need to reach out, I remain available. At George’s direction, I will continue to provide updates. Again, thank you all for making George’s life so incredibly enriched. All of you are a testament to a life well lived and he is SO grateful. Thank you all so much. -Constance |

Was very saddened to hear the update earlier this week. I didn't submit to the signing as I already have a bunch of signed / graded Perez books. However, I did read yesterday that CGC is looking at giving the option of pushing the submitted books through as graded with the Perez exclusive label to generate funds for his family. |
