@PDGray on top of that, take a look at the newbie thread. It'll tell you the order of the statuses (stati?) and so on.

@zdoes10 I don't see that particular cover on MCS but they have a Swamp Dogs book being written by a J.M. Brandt.

I bought some comics at an auction. It was not possible to see, but several of them had this stamp/puncture on them. It looks like a metal punch was used with a hammer ot something. Anybody know what this is?

@etapi65 - Unfortunately, that flower-shaped indent is going to knock down the grade on that Marvel Team-Up #98. It reminds me of the mark left in a ticket from a ticket-checker at an amusement park or movie theater back many years ago.

@esaravo I figured, was trying to figure out if this was common somehow. It was on a lot of books, but not several of the main books I bought the lots for; was disappointed to see it on this one.

@etapi65 looks like someone had a leather stamp kit - you know for making belts and tack and stuff (made a belt or two in my youth!!) and just had their way with the comic book!!

This set has a similar flower pattern

It's pretty unfortunate what's been stamped...I'll post in the "new to my collection" once I get them all sorted. Frustrating that you just couldn't see these in the images they posted online...at all. Not even slightly. Avengers #200, Daredevil #167 and 169, Marvel, Team-up #95. Paid $50/lot maximum (most $25-$30) for all of them except the one that had the team-ups (and had an unstamped Moon Knight #14).

All newsstand editions (which not as big an issue in late 70s early 90s, but still).

It was an auction house in the middle of the rural community I lived in on the pig farm from 91-98. They don't have much of an online presence and with nothing grading; website crawlers didn't find the sales. Plus, they had things mislabled. The team-up #95 was in a "spider-man" lot and you couldn't see it unless you looked at the 4th or 5th image in the sale.

Was worth a shot. Didn't lose money wise because of the good stuff I did get, but man, this could have been a huge haul in terms of value I didn't have to shell-out for keys.

@etapi65 Some people/collectors would "stamp" or mark their books so no one would steal them and say it's theirs.

Can anyone tell me if the image below is an actual ASM cover?

I was told it was, and this was the variant. The original cover supposedly had the red and blue costume. I don't know!

I found this image online years ago (as is), except there were buildings and clouds which I edited out and currently use (larger image) as the background on my laptop.

I really love this rendition of Spidey as he appears to have absolutely no qualms chunkin' someone's ass through a brick wall.

Also, who is the artist?

ASM #528. I found the red and blue version but it doesn’t have any trade dress. Maybe a print he did?

The GCD doesn't list a red and blue version either:

Evidently my description was incorrect. The orange is the actual cover and the red/blue is I guess maybe a print. I prefer the orange version.

So for those of you that successfully traded for books at a convention, how does it work? For example, I want to trade some books for a hulk 1. If the vendor is selling a copy for 25k, do I need to show up with 25k worth of comics or do I need more than that? I understand that books need to be in demand, so books I would be using for trade are decent silver age keys like batman 121 cgc 6.0 and batman 181 8.5 hulk 181 9.0 etc.... nothing really under a grand in value on the books unless his copy is some grade higher than I anticipated and I'm desperate I might have some 1k books. But I plan to bring along a lot of keys just in case.

Also. What fo think about pence book values? I have a TOS 39 1.5 CGC pence copy. A normal copy is selling for almost 7500$ what do you think a fair value on that would be?

Trades can be different. While you have good books to trades, if the dealer who has the Hulk 1 already has copies of your trade bait, then they may not be interested in a trade.

Understood. I've never tried trading before so this is going to be a first experience for me. While I want the book, I am not going to sell my soul for a copy. I'm just curious as to if there are guidelines so I don't over step or insult.

Just be pleasant and polite. If the dealer comes across as a jerk from the start, then just say, "Thank you for your time." and leave. Hulk 1s are hard to come by, so there may not be many in the room. Most trades I've seen are a combination of books and cash.

Yeah. I am extremely cash poor so I need to be heavy in the trade. So I'm thinking I might need to go a bit higher than his value to make it worth while on his end.

Is it time for me to send my cgc qualified copy in? I'm mainly concerned about the value for insurance purposes if anything happens and how they would handle a claim with a qualified grade.

There is no time like the present. You figure it is only going to go up in value. Might as well do it now. If you do registered mail and pack it bomb proof style you should be safe.
