@Bronte if I may wax a bit philosophical: It's all about the ratio relationship between journey and destination. Consider that the effect of technology and progress is to reduce the journey, allowing you to reach more destinations (physically, but also symbolically). With progress, the destination we want to reach comes easier and quicker. Whether it be traveling across the country, finding an answer to a question, getting a meal or completing a collection. People who order dinner from Post Mates have no way of relating to grandma spending 3 hours preparing the family dinner and jarring foods in the summer for consumption in the winter. You and I have no way of relating to a covered wagon taking 3 months to cross the country with family members dying on the way. We get on an airplane and arrive 5 hours later. So each generation is conditioned to expect a shorter journey and quicker arrival at the destination. That's how we get the "I want it now" mentality.

You make an excellent point. And that addresses one issue. I suppose given enough thought it might explain bad behavior as well. I guess I'm just tired of people being rude to each other. As stupid as it sounds, can't we all just get along?

I just read a post about cgc in the other thread and a guy just posted a bunch of laughter to mock a guy commenting on how the orders are still taking longer. Was that really necessary? After explaining yourself your point was made, why diminish your point by being a jerk? Sadly this is our world.

The entire quote is "The customer is always right in matters of taste," which give it an entirely different meaning that the one it was co-opted for.

Look at chik Fila. They actually have classes on how to be courteous to their guests. This stuff used to be taught in tbe home. Treating others with respect and compassion used to be the norm. Now it's an after though if you get what you want....
I had a customer argue with me over something that clearly did not qualify for their.. um “demands”. He said “the customer is always right!” Without skipping a beat (and not thinking because I had enough of this bologna) I said “not always”. It did not turn out well, but 7 years later I still a job😂

Said this precise thing for years. They falsely inflate values and much of their data is either unverifiable or uses data skewed to make books appear more high than can be documented

I never use just their FMV estimate. At least not without being able to understand how they got there.
Better to look at 30 day sales average and one year sales average.

@EbayMafia

If you watch the video it will show that recent sales may not be accurate. So in a sense none of their numbers may be accurate.

I was just passing this information along as it seemed a lot of folks depend on gocollect. Whether they believe this guy or not is up to the watcher,

His points are valid and he is hilariously frustrated with go collect over this. I get it, his mannerisms show his frustrations and concerns. Its almost painful to watch.

For anyone that sells books through MCS, could you walk me through the process? How much of a cut do they take?

If I do convince my wife to let me drop this much on the collection I'm going to look at this weekend, I'm really not excited to do ebay sales and have to deal with all of that. Would be worth it to me to just be able to send them off and have that hassle taken out of the equation. Plus with books reaching potentially into the couple thousand range, would be a little safer on my end as well.

Im eyeing Incredible Hulk and Wolverine from ‘86. It reprints 180 & 181 with a wraparound cover featuring Hulk, Wolvy, and Wendigo. There are plenty of nice copies at reasonable prices. Does anyone think these will gain traction being an early “Re-presenting!” Issue and that it includes both 180 & 181?

exactly this...if their recent sales data is flawed, the other numbers will be also correspondngly as badly formulated. ...at the end of the day, knowing that it is not being done with accurate numbers and is hit and miss, means that you throw it all out rather than spend time trying to find data to support the numbers you choose to accept, and tossing out what cannot be supported.

8-10% depending on what things sell for, or it can be higher if you sell a group of books as a lot. If you sell the books to them directly they will take a bigger cut, of course. But either way you fill out one web form or another (there are different ones for different selling options), ship them the books, then wait for them to process the books. You can get paid via check or paypal.

@xkonk awesome, thanks! I'm assuming they assume all liability then for safe shipment of books etc as well if consigning?

That's part of the reason I'm a little hesitant with ebay sales - at least a few of these books will be in the 1k+ area, and while I trust my packaging, I do not trust the post offices ability to not break packages. 😊

I don't know what counts as 'traction'. I think it will be a consistently vaguely popular book. I don't think it'll be a golden record reprint or anything like that.

@Sebastsk8 unless you take the books to them in person, you still have to ship them. But once they get to MCS, yes, they handle any further shipping.

@xkonk sounds good, thank you for the info! I may end up cherrypicking certain books for myself, but I think to get my wife on board with spending this much I'll end up having to sell a good bit more value than I pay for it lol

For what its worth mycomicshop.com has decent packing. And the more expensive the book tbe better the packing job. Even raw new books are treated with a box from my experience. I don't think I've ever gotten a gemini mailer from them.

@Sebastsk8 you will be able to consign any slabs and the more valuable raw books with them. But you won't be able to just send them the whole collection of raws for consignment. Probably 90% of raw books they won't be interest in regardless of grade. The other 10% will have some fairly strict minimum grade requirements for consignment unless they are really quick-selling books. You can use the consignment link on their site to test out some books and see if they would be eligible for consignment.

@EbayMafia the drek and filler that I wouldn't want to keep I'd probably dump off on my lcs wholesale. The larger books would be what I'd consign - mid grade silver asm keys and larger price tag books(asm 6, 46, 50, etc).

You wouldn't have any problem consigning those books with them. You will of course need to be prepared for the tight grades that will be assigned to them. That just comes with the territory when selling raws through MCS. It gets under your skin initially but eventually you come to realize that with many books it's better to accept a tight grade that is respected by the market than to spend the time and money getting them slabbed.

Currently watching Justice Society: World War II. Why are the DC animated movies better than 90% of the DCEU movies? I don't get how one can be so well done and the other is a mess.

Doesn't necessarily need answers. A rhetorical rant. Haha.

For the same reason as what is drawn on the page conveys more to the reader than trying to translate it into a live action medium. Animated films are still drawn and able to achieve more with, shall we say, less effort than a live action film.

That said, I agree that the animated shows are better than most anything live action. Of course, the cartoons appeal to the kid in me and are quite nostalgic.
