@HeinzDad

Was it rejected? Or did you assume it would be rejected?

Your opinion was all I needed. It kinda sucked telling my buddy that about his baby was all.

Edit; looking at the back cover would almost give someone vertigo. everything was printed crooked or the cover was cut crooked, or it was wrapped crooked? I still don't know. Something Ive never really run across.

I think the over hang is extreme enough to prevent slabbing, but if your “buddy” doesn’t regularly submit; you could maybe do a joint sub. If his/hers cannot be slabbed then it comes back with yours. No harm no foul; everyone is happy(ish) and maybe he/she chips in for shipping?

This is exactly what's going on. I basically said give it a whirl. From what I can tell the worst that will happen is that it will get sent back.

No pay on a rejected book? Its gets sent back with the others?

Ghosts (or spirits) are real. Anything with a spirit (or soul) can be a ghost. I personally believe that animals have souls. Therefore, animals can be ghosts IMO.
careful; MrTimley’s account still lurks lease hallowed threads 🤫

It was MrTimely2. The ghost of the original MrTimely most likely haunts the CGC forum.

@HulkSmash Those aren't ghosts, they are actually just banished to the Phantom Zone. They can see and hear us, but we can't see or hear them. But once in a while one will send a message by leaving a feedback vote.

Would this be pressable with these 2 larger tears? I’m mainly concerned with cleaning. I’m suspicious of the top left corner and think that might be mold rather than soiling. Steve! Heeellp! @SteveRicketts

Just visited lawyer. There is an addendum sheet that accompanies a will. You list tangible assets on that sheet along with who you want to give what to. It doesn't even need to be notarized. The key takeaway about the step up cost basis for taxes is that you need to get an appraisal of collectibles soon after the deceased person passes. That establishes the value of assets during time of passing. You will use that as the new cost basis when selling.

one of my MCS listings on my consignment page is highlighted in yellow - what's the deal with that???

I haven't updated the price in a while - but I'm ok with that - is that why it's yellow??

So I contacted the place the lawyer suggested to get an appraisal when the time comes. I asked how much would they charge.

55$ bux per book and that's because I have it in a spreadsheet and pictures. Otherwise it's 75$ per book......

Wtf?

It's seems a hell of a lot. A few books would be more than a GPA ANALYSIS membership for a year and you can look up the prices yourself...

I sent an email to another place to see if their prices are the same.

If you are talking about slabbed comics, I think someone is probably unclear on what they will be doing. Price may be different when they realize that all the grading and researching has already been done and it's gonna take 2-3 minutes per book.

Yes. I told them they were all graded books by cbcs and cgc and I had pictures of the books and serial numbers.

Edit

Here is exact letter I sent them

Good evening

I have a comic collection. If you were to do an appraisal upon the death of my father, do I need to bring the books to you? Or would an excel spreadsheet and pictures of the books be sufficient? The books in question are all 3rd party graded by cbcs and cgc. Also, how much do you charge for this service?

Thank you for your time

What are the odds they know what cgc or cbcs are?

Is this a general appraiser? I might contact one of the collectibles insurance companies and get a recommendation from them. IIRC you have one you use already.

@Davethebrave

They are local to me and looking on their website they specifically list comics. I reached out to a few other places and heritage auctions had a much better fee. I think it was 350 an hour or 2500 a day and if I send them my list they will give me an actual estimate.

This is all just fact gathering stage since my dad hasn't passed yet.

Again, sorry about your father. As you know I’m in a similar position.

As for the costs, it sounds like Heritage “gets it” and the other, despite listing comics, doesn’t.

If they price themselves out of such an easy task with third party data references they either can make $ more efficiently elsewhere (perhaps) or they really don’t understand what’s involved (likely).

I have dealt with auto insurance claims/appraisal on a minor collector car and despite them professing expertise, they had none. Partly intentional, partly not. Of course was able to get proper appraised value but not worth the effort involved so later everything to a true specialist.

Once had a cop knock on my door at night. His patrol car ran into my fence and he left his me his business card. Why didn't he right himself a ticket? He instead told me to call the office in the morning. (I declined to do so because I did not want to get on a cops bad side over minor damage)
