What Are You Watching?: Part II16640

I'm swapping between 3 different things (that are all re-watches, sort of) right now, so none of them get old and I just stop. Dexter - I never got past about 4 or 5 episodes in to season 5 before, but I want to watch it all so I can watch the new one Gotham - I got to the beginning of season 4 I think when it first came out, just want to watch it all. Stranger Things - Just getting ready for the new season in May. |

I'm guessing I' the only one here who watched DMZ on HBO Max? Another DC property, I had read several of the trade paperbacks so I knew the background about New York being declared a Demilitarized Zone between the waring factions the USA and the Free States. The changed the details from the TPB but the basic premise of an "Escape From New York" style remained. Ungoverned factions living and fighting together, trying to figure out who will run things and how in a "no white men allowed" zone. | ||

Making the Team, the iconic series about the DCC and the annual event to form the new squad has announced that it will not be renwed for another year. I am both excited to see it end finally and saddened...I will miss seeing women I speak to regularly on an ongoing tv series, although I see some positives potentially from it. The squad had a massive stalking issue this past few seasons that resulted in new rules...the girls were only allowed to sign merchandise released by the squad, or more specifically squad photos and calendars and nothing else, except personnal cameo shots. Rules were also put in place to disrupt signing events as far as fan photo ops, and so forth with security often so overbearing you could not get near the table for an autograph or picture. The girls were forbidden to sign anything beyond first names to anything fan related which I felt was rather idiotic personnaly. I am hoping some of the restrictions and rules will ease back to how it was before the impact of the television series seemed to cause so much havoc... I also wonder if the potential cause of the ending of the series is a guard change in the top ranks of the squad leadership...looking primarily at Judy Trammell, and Kelli Mcgonagill Finglass, the Director and choreographer for so many years ( after cheering for the team in the mid eighties themselves) |

One of my favorite YouTube channels (Red Letter Media) just released a Re:View episode about ‘Darkman’ (1990). This is their recommendation show, where they just discuss why they like a movie and dissect it a little. I am already a fan of the movie, but now I wanna watch it again. |

Quote:Originally Posted by dfoster43The Dallas cheerleaders have never stopped "being a thing" actually. Since the inception of the squad using guys and girls from a high school cheer group in 1961, at the Cotton bowl, to when the team moved to the newly built Texas Stadium and applied sideline dancing, as well as the now universally known uniforms, the squad have been the pioneers in this genera for the entire NFL. This past year the Smithsonian added an exhibit dedicated to the squad and put together by the team historian, Brooke Wicker Alexander, a former DCC I used to visit in Dallas back in the early and mid nineties super bowl years. As far as a tv show the Squad starred in the two highest rated made for tv movies of their release year back in the eary eighties. They appeared on well over fifty telethons since, as well as Love Boat, Jeopardy and dozens of other programs. Their unform is the most recognized uniform world wide today , and the girls have done 83 USSO tours to honor our troops overseas the past forty years. The last sixteen years the squad has starred in the television series Making the Team, which highlights the intense tryouts, and process each squad is faced with each year. Many former DCC have moved onto bigger things as well...including Melissa Rycroft of "The Batchelor" , Abigail Kleine, who appeared in the Transformers Extinction as well as many other movies, Jill Jones andrSarah SHahi , as well as Brandi redmond, who are all Hollywood actress, and even the singer Demi Lovato whose mother was a DCC. In their illustrious career 840 men or women cheerned for the team, and since the move to Texas statidium and the advent of the new costume and dancing routines, right at 740 have worn the uniform. Of those girls 40 belong to the Yellow rose group, a close knit set of girls who all cheered for the squad five years or more. I can offer that I have over 4,000 signed items from the squad, and that includes 187 seperate girls in the collection, spanning trading cards, calendars, cameos, and USSO flyers, as well as a squad used jacket, pom poms, boots, and even various items like frisbees, a model van, liquor decanters and bookmarks. I maintain a network of around 75 former alumn I can contact via social media, text, email or a work address for signing purposes. I often trade things with the former alumn, as well. In the nineties I went down to Dallas quite a bit and spent time with the girls at appearances, shows and practices and made some friendships that have endured to this day. One of the first DCC I met was Dorie Braddy Grogan , who moved to Miami and got married, and subsqueantly took over management of their squad and has done so since....this past month I had a package of cards and pictures back from her, signed and returned as she always has , since I met her thirty years ago. As for talking to them daily, I doubt anyone talks to them daily anymore, but I do interact with them via Dm's on instagram, facebook, email and so forth constantly. This weeks big challenge has been trying to find vintage shots from the early and mid eighties of them on the USSO tours to try and document what style jackets were used each year and for what....so I an find a definite idea when and how my own jacket was used and for what. Today it serves as a signing board for more than fifty former DCC however. Each his own, and I get that...we all have something we shine at and that flowers with our efforts and work and dedication . Mine just happens to be centered around the most stunning women in texas for the past fifty years, their history and their sisterhood. Shanie Guyot Kelcey Wetterberg signing card, circa 2007 Opening page of the Book, Deep in the Heart of Texas, signed by the three Scholz sisters, the only set of three to cheer for the squad, sadly the youngest, Sherri is now deceased. My squad used USSO tour jacket signed by 53 former members, including the director and choreographer. and finally no commentary or posting about the DCC would be complete without Sydney Durso, who I also work in a given capacity for. the world always needs more Sydney Durso ! |

One thing I did notice is the actual squad is in Mexico or just returning from the calendar shoot. The group you saw on stage tonight was the veterans who wont be returning next year mixed with the All-Stars, a group of ten , cream of the crop former cheerleaders who are kept on standby for paid appearances, conventions and the like...they are schooled how to perform at this gigs and how to handle bad situations. Crowd Savy and fan friendly and paid vey well. I was messaging with maddie before and after the routine, and they were having a ball apparently. Here is a shot of the girls who were there.....far left front row is my friend Maddie, and over her shoulder is her boot buddy Alexis and to the back far left I spotted Rachel Wyatt. or....first up Maddie....next two are Alexis Peterson, and the final two are Rachel Wyatt |

Just finished ‘Deep Water (2022) on HULU with Ben Affleck & the ever captivating Ana de Armas. Not a bad slow burn of a movie, but it could have used another twist. I don’t think it has any real replay value. |

Just finished episode 4 of “The Thing About Pam” on HULU. If you’re into true crime, definitely check it out. It’s basically a dark comedy take on a true story. Bonus, Keith Morrison from “Dateline” fame narrates. It’s great so far. Two episodes left & they drop on Tuesdays. |
