Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user

Every slab had a pressure fracture on the seal, one book was slabbed with a finger bend (my guy pressed it before sending it in), and another book was graded a 9.8 with two ink-breaking creases.

They replaced every slab, but didn’t fix the bent book (at my request) and they didn’t downgrade the obvious ‘not’ 9.8. Two of the slabs were returned with switched labels. WTF??? Those were returned…again. When I called about those two, I told the representative I talked to that they were losing my business after almost five years. He was sorry to hear that…he wasn’t by the sound of his voice. It’s not about the customer, as far as I’m concerned.

This whole experience has put me off my tea. I have low tolerance for B.S., so if I’m not happy, I walk away. CGC can pound sand…I have no desire to send in comics for grading to anyone anymore. I’ll buy slabs from someone else instead. Here endeth the rant. 🙂👍🖖

@Galen130 - I have said this before, one of the main reasons I chose not to continue using cgc was their attitude that I was there to serve them. That plus CBCS lower price, better quality, better pressing, non-newton ring encasements has equated to my sending over 4,000 comics to CBCS and ZERO to cgc since 2019.

Which real estate market? Which comic?

If you ask me $3m for a house in the burbs of Toronto or LA… vs AC1… the latter every day of the week.

If vs Manhattan at today’s prices… tougher call but still AC1 if I had the $ to not finance.

AF15? Give me the house lol

i was thinking nyc market
i would rather have a house in brooklyn now than say a comic book. that i need to sell down the line
real estate brings in cash every month with rent
its a no brainer
invest in real estate where every month i can collect rent and get money on my investment on a monthly basis
and its also a tax write off

Times like this make you realize that a primary reason for supporting the little guy is just so that you continue to have a second option. They may want to act as if CBCS doesn't exist, but "customers" certainly should not.

I was into investing in some comics for my personal collection, but after all the shenanigans, I decided against it...for the most part.

I had about a 60-comic stack set aside for submission until last November.. Silver Age to Modern Age. I went through those books and returned the ones I wanted into my PC...the rest I put up for sale. I decided to use the funds from my sales to purchase signed slabs from Silver to Copper Age.

Yes, I was looking to make a little money with some hot keys while keeping some stuff for myself. I was looking to make a shitload of money off comics, but I wasn't going to put up with CGC's crap anymore. Stubborn, stupid, selfish, I don't care. I still have a love for comics. I just think I'll find what I like and keep them for myself. As my wife constantly states...it is what it is. Lol

So you believe that HA and CC are scamming the hobby and those books didn't really sell for what they did?

Here’s a short documentary about fraud in the graded video game market. It will give you an idea of what he’s talking about:

There's no question shenanigans were/are going on over at HA....at the very least the shill bidding that's legally allowed....not true shenanigans when it's legal but what a weird law to have.

I would guess, from their perspective, that the only problem would be if/when demand goes and it turns out that they've lost some market share to CBCS/whoever else. In the meantime, at least, they keep vacuuming up money.

TAT has not changed - and looking at cgc board ppl there are still going to submit. new cgc investors want to optimize their return

So where's the video about comic scamming? And I also mentioned ComicConnect as well as HA.

If it is about that shill bidding is allowed in Texas and that HA in their T&C clearly states that they may bid on their own auction items - then we have covered this before. eg in thus thread https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/13578/page/2/situation-just-got-serious-for-this-ebay-seller/

TL;DR blame yourselves for spec bubbles as the market is too broad and liquid for single actors to meaningfully manipulate it.

Long ver:

Bidding on own items has been around pre boom as well. Every collectible market out there is in a major bull/boom/bubble cycle. Heritage only has a meaningful part of one little slice…

Why would anyone think this drives any of the current market activity?

Car market, watches, etc. Some of the card (sports card) promoters have made statements they paid big money in the past to help ignite the market.

Fully disclosed and people still bid it up.

Just bid to what you think is fair given your demand and the supply out there.

Speculative greed on the buyer side is driving the most absurd segments… we don’t need to find a bogeyman.
