Your One Item You Don't Think You Could Ever Sell16601

I'm waiting.... (tapping fingers).

Nuffsaid111 private msg quote post Address this user
As sort of an anti/opposite - $600 selling thread that went off the rails, I thought it'd be fun to show your one item ... just one item that either you will never sell; or would really really hurt to sell. Toss in a little back story as to why this one item is so important to you. It can be a comic, artwork, magazine, an album, baseball card, any collectible that is vitally important to you.

I'll start.
This is my convention autograph life story for 35 years. The number and quality of autographs on my Marvel coffee table book is precious to me as it represents anywhere from 2 - 10 conventions per year; every year, for 35 years. (to heck with 2020 with no Cons... lol). I'm not sure one book anywhere contains the amount of deceased legends and living legends that just won't do conventions anymore. This book would kill me to sell. I ran out of space on the 3 shown pages so there are autographs throughout the book on the page in which the artist/writer is associated. I keep sheets of paper so I remember who's in the book. (Note: for posterity I've included my DC big book also for a comprehensive view of the legends I've met. Ultimately the Marvel book is #1 though)

My Sketchbook - has lots of sketches but the book is one item!

a few samples
these will never be torn out and sold while I am alive - what happens after is another story
some not scanned - or where I can't find the images - Dale Keown, Dave Doorman, J Bone, Terry Moore, Suydam, Perez, Chaykin etc.etc.

have a few sketches not in my book that will also never get sold - some were commission some were auction wins

Title page/1st page by Linda Medley - loved Castle Waiting which was being published at the time

I don't have much of a story to go behind these. The Wolverine is the first comic I can recall paying over cover price for when I was 10 or 11. My brother's friend Erwin knew I liked comics and sold it to me for $20 in the early 90s. It was part of my first submission to a grading company and I can't see ever parting ways with it. The other book I purchased recently, has an equally if not far more boring story to go along with it. I always enjoyed the Bone series and artwork. After regretting the decision to sell a CBCS copy I got a great deal on a couple years ago I put in a bid at auction a few months ago and was shocked that I won it. It's definitely the most my heart has been racing from a comic purchase.

Actually 2 things I could never sell, but they pretty much move as one. Lived in the shelter together for 9 months. Before that they lived on the streets together with a homeless man. After 3-4 years with us they don't need each other quite so much...but I still catch them sleeping butt-to-butt pretty often, just like when we found them in the shelter:

I probably shouldn't sell the blanket either, apparently.

I make it a goal to try and add at least one sketch per year - getting harder and harder to find convention artists I want sketches from though

I'm only about half way through the sketchbook with 30? pages left to fill - I'll have to add more than 1 a year to fill it before I kick the bucket!!

I do find though that new artists after taking a look at the prior pages tend to give me some great pieces - not always but every once in a while when I don't know what to expect I get something nice!!

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
Some of you already know the twofold backstory on this. First off, this comic was signed for me just after publication, by my favorite artist at the time.

Additionally, several years ago it was accidentally bent in half across the top third of comic. It was shaped like a hickey stick. After doing much research, i chose @SteveRicketts and CBCS to press and grade this comic. It was my test run with CBCS in a couple of ways. I had never used CBCS before, and I had never had a comic pressed before.

It has to be this- I get a thrill every time I look at it. This scan was taken before he did some touch-ups on the "4" reflection.

There’s no belonging that I have that I wouldn’t sell for the right price. I just don’t have personal attachments to material possessions. I get it, throw in a closet or such and forget about it.

Excluding people and pets.

Items of particular sentimental value to me generally aren’t worth much to others.

A baseball from the first Blue Jays game my dad took me to in the 80s is something I will never sell. Some old coins that I “discovered” and “collected” from my parents closet as a little kid fall into that category too.

Gratuitous pet photo below:

I've been a huge Kirby fan since I started collecting books at a very young age (I have 2 older brothers who also collect).

I sent this book to CBCS for verification and it passed...Love this book!

I want to get rid of everything nowadays, but this'll be the one thing I keep. Story is too long to tell, but I bought this from Joe Shuster at San Diego 1977. Meeting him and talking to him is one memory I'll never forget. The picture is from the program book.
