OT: Just For Fun, What’s Your Favorite Sitcom of All-Time?16493

I’m Kinda Married To A Celebrity. 00slim private msg quote post Address this user
For me, the first five seasons of “King of Queens” is pure gold. The dynamo between the characters is so believable. The humor is dark but lighthearted. It’s just a joy to watch.

After season 5, the tone changed immediately and drastically. Something was off. There are good episodes here and there, but it wasn’t the same show.

What about you? What’s your favorite sitcom?

For the record, my all-time favorite television show is the original “Twilight Zone”. But that’s a different subject all together.

"Soap," on ABC from 1977-81. Incredibly well acted, and some of the funniest moments on TV ever.

My favorite changes all the time but I think the first 5 seasons of the Andy Griffith show are as solid as any. But a guilty pleasure lately is the British As time goes by from the 90s with Judy Dench and Geoffrey Palmer.

@r_kruss I totally forgot about the Soap sitcom. That show was hilarious.

And another sitcom that made me lmao was Fawlty Towers.

The black and white episodes of “Andy Griffith” are just classic television. I’ve seen every episode a dozen times and still love it.

The Simpsons Seasons 1-9 or 10 for animated.
Silicon Valley Seasons 1-5, the last season was atrocious.

If these are even sitcoms. Does it need to have a laugh track?

I have also changed faves over time. I guess if forced to choose one, Frasier.

Top 5:
Seinfeld, Frasier, Married…with Children, Cheers, The Office (US)

I’m excluding some stuff that is hard to classify narrowly as sitcom and also excluding animated series.

Seinfeld has the highest rewatchability & some of those episodes are genius

Newcomers in the age of streaming...
Frayed
Catastrophe
Fleabag

And, not sure if it is a sit-com, maybe a dramedy, "Better Things" is my favorite show still going (last season starts in 2022)

Absolutely love M*A*S*H. The first 3 seasons are the best. It slowly spiraled down once Alan Alda started directing. It just had a different feel and the laugh track slowly disappeared.

WKRP in Cincinnati is a classic too!

Are You Being Served is a guilty BBC pleasure!

I haven’t watched many “TV” shows over the last 20+ years, but as a kid I enjoyed shows like Get Smart, Gilligan’s Island, the Andy Griffith Show, the Adams Family, the Munsters, Hogan’s Heroes, McHale’s Navy, F-Troop, and all those science fiction shows (Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel, Lost in Space, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea come to mind). There were some interesting Westerns too, like the Rifleman and Have Gun Will Travel.

During the 1970’s and 1980’s, there were dozens of great sitcoms. Taxi was probably my favorite, but don’t forget about the Mary Tyler Moore Show, the Bob Newhart Show, the Odd Couple, MASH, All in the Family, Cheers, Barney Miller, Hill Street Blues, Married with Children, and so many more. I still liked my SciFi too, with the Six Million Dollar Man, the Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, and of course, the Incredible Hulk. And let’s not forget Kung Fu, young grasshopper.

After that, I enjoyed the first few seasons of the Big Bang Theory, but the last series that I got a kick out of was the Middle. If you haven’t seen that one, give it a try.

That's a tough, tough question.

There are classics I love, many already mentioned. And there have been some groundbreaking series mentioned as well, from Soap to All In the Family. A couple of British comedies have been genius.

Top three ... gun to my head ... not in any particular order other than alphabetical ...

Arrested Development

Man, the first two seasons of “Arrested Development” are special. I’ve watched those episodes countless times and I still catch jokes I’ve missed from time to time.

When I was a kid, I'd have said "The Munsters." I still like it but I can't say that it's my favorite nowadays.

If I had to name one out of all of them I'd probably say "All in the Family." To me, it still holds up really well.

After that, I'd list many of the sitcoms already mentioned by others: Soap, MASH, Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory, Cheers... so many good ones over the decades.

Like everyone else, I find this is incredibly hard to narrow down. So, besides all the great ones mentioned so far, I'd like to add a few more that I watched quite regularly at one point or another.

Benson
Facts of Life
Malcolm in the middle
The odd couple
Happy days
Laverne and Shirley

Jeffersons
Sanford and son
