Press a graphic novel? Killing Joke 8.51644

Collector VisceralDreams private msg quote post Address this user
Hello everyone,

I haven't been able to find much on this at all. I have an 8.5 cbcs graded copy of the Killing Joke 1st print and it looks like 9.6 - 9.8. The only things i see in the notes are creases that do not break color. One on the front cover and one on the back cover. Both toward the center of the book. I was wondering if i should send it to get pressed and if it can press out the wrinkles. Has anyone out there pressed a graphic novel? Please post. Thanks

Yes, Killing Joke can be pressed (I am not a presser but I have had a copy of this book pressed before)

I know Kevin the Comic Doctor "outside of Toronto" has pressed some Dark Knight returns and told me you have to be very careful because of the glue used and that the books don't take to well to a pressing. But if in dire need it will help. Hope this little info helps start more conversation.

@VisceralDreams I know Joey from CFP has stated that he can indeed press a squarebound book

Squarebounds can be pressed, any competent presser can press them.Pressing a book like you described can be done, it just requires more work than a standard copper book.

To give you anything more definitive, you would have to post up FC and BC scans.Did you scan the book before subbing it to CBCS?

I either scan FC/BC's of all the books I sub in to both CBCS and CGC or take pics with an app on my cell, primarily because I like to keep detailed records of all the books that I press and sub.

AS far as the "wrinkles" that the OP mentioned, I'm guessing he is referring to wrinkles along the spine due to the glued spine...if that's the case, then yeah. That can be pressed out.

These can be done and done quite well, if you know what you are doing.

Thank you everyone
I am enjoying this awesome forum
I will crack it and send to CFP and resubmit to CBCS when the new label is out. Do you take the books in the CBCS case or would I have to crack it?

Couldn't you buy a higher grade, already graded Killing Joke for less than pressing and shipping back and forth would cost?

Just asking.

Great point as you can pick up a CBCS 9.4 on eBay for around $100.00. Grading and pressing would be in the $25-30 range. Another $10 for shipping and you have another $45 invested into a book that could come back a 9.0 or stay the same depending on the defects it has. Unless the book has sentimental value to the OP...I would sell it as is and invest that into a better copy.

I'm using the light to show the only two creases. You can't see them without holding it at an angle in the light. Do you think this could press to a 9.6 or 9.8? I would be submitting other books to get pressed and graded as well. Shipping would even it out a bit. If I could get 9.6 it would be worth it. Plus the new label

Going by the pics provided, wouldn't call that a wrinkle. That looks like a heavy indentation.seems to be located on the same spot on the FC & BC, which would indicate that the book is indented from the FC thru the interior pages, to the BC...combine that with the fact that it is a card stock cover and not much can be done.A press might bump you up to as high as a 9.2,Nowhere close to a 9.8 and mote than likely, 9.0 would be the outcome....it could very well not get a bump at all.

Basically, that cannot be pressed out, to an appreciable degree.

The indentation will be removed but those 2 "wrinkles" are not going anywhere.

I would take the advise of @CFP_Comics. Sell that one and invest that money into buying a nicer copy.
