More Fun #52 (1st Spectre)

And if I'm serious about completing Fantastic Four #1 through #100, I have to add FF #1.

Very High Grade Dell Four Color featuring the 1st appearance of Disney and TV characters. (Bambi, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, Seven Dwarfs, Lady & Tramp, Brer Rabbit, Quick Draw McGraw, Bullwinkle & Rocky, Twilight Zone, Crusader Rabbit, Huckleberry Hound, Felix the Cat, etc...)

I consider White Whale both something I desire incredibly AND cannot even find anywhere for any price whatsoever.
Anything Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse I can find relatively easy. It's just a matter of money.

I have 3 left. Tmnt #1 1st print. Only personal grail I'm missing. Just got done paying the mortgage 3 years ago. Not going to remortgage. Still have the Mickey Mantle rookie 9.0 or better. Carson city silver dollar graded 67. Again not going to remortgage the house.

My grail is an X-Men 1. Gonna have to be low grade at this point, but hopefully within the next couple years.

@power_struggle55 I have a NM 98 in 9.2 if you want to talk about it.

Both of mine are rather odd and equally unattainable.

WWBN #32 signed by Moench and Perlin - 6.0 or higher and...

THOR #330 signed by Alan Zelenetz and Bob Hall in 9.8

As odd as it may be, those are my ultimate chase books

No real White Whale for me…

True ā€œgrailā€ is AC1. Unlikely…

Very happy with the books and other collectibles I have.

If there is one collectible that comes closest to something like a White Whale for me, it would be a Ferrari F40. Unlikely…

An honorable mention is Dell Movie Classics ā€˜Creature’ 1st print in 9.4 or better. I’ve chased this for years. My best copy is a 9.2 2nd print. Close. Very close.

@Davethebrave
in a similar position..for years I had a thing about Teen Titans but a while ago I finished off BB54 through most of maybe all New Teen Titans 1984? - so no real itch to scratch on the TT front - maybe a better TT #1 (but that depends on the grade the one I have at CBCS gets - hope 8?)

i decided even though its not completely the same....get a facimile edition of Ultimate fallout #4. those are still collectable worth getting graded. its cheap (only way with my budget for me to get it)

@Davethebrave oh sure..there's things I want.....I would like a decent copy of Planet Comics 58 or really any number of Planet comics issues....but not in a real hurry to get them and certainly not white whale level.
Not sure there is any 1 comic/collectable that would rise to that level - just stuff that if the right opportunity presents itself I'll pick up

I've been looking for this forever. One just sold on Heritage from the promise collection but I was outbid which I expected. At C2E2 a dealer that sells a lot of golden age books told me today he hasn't seen one in 30 years.

For about 5 years I looked at copies of Marvel Family #1 with first Golden Age appearance of Black Adam. They could rarely be found and were typically very low grade or quite expensive (what seemed to be expensive at the time anyway. There was a restored 6.0 on Ebay for a long time at about $3,000. It was always too much money for me to justify spending on a comic. I kept hoping to find a way to buy it directly for a discount and no sales tax. One day about 14 months ago I went to pull the trigger on it and it was gone. I doubt I will get another shot.

I will admit that I am working on obtaining by far the rarest book I’ve ever attempted… but I can’t call it a White Whale because:
A) have spent <2 years working on finding one and
B) I am not going to feel bad if I never get it…

Something that drastically alters a person's view of whales and grails, is just look where you have been .....I was collecting marvel keys in the 80's when you could buy every book in that picture for less than 300 apiece. Looking at prices nowdays, anything else is just gravy.

X-Men 1 UK price variant
Transformers 1 (complete) Marvel UK
Dazzler 41 CPV

Two are a possibility but the Dazzler might be tough.
