Sorry, this may be different than what you were thinking

Pertaining to the Overstreet Price Guide, what are the requirements for an issue to be designated as a "bondage" cover? Is it for bound women only? As far as I can tell, these 2 issues are not listed in the OPG as bondages covers.

Actually, I've been noticing lately that some male bondage covers are being listed as 'bondage covers,' though rather than Overstreet, I've seen it in a couple of online price guides (can't remember which - sorry) and on some eBay listings. Personally, I think it's time for equality, so as far as I'm concerned, either drop it entirely, or list 'em all.

I wouldn't call the X-Men 251 bondage. The Ironjaw 4 is a bondage cover.

@DrWatson Why, because he was nailed (I guess) rather than tied with rope?

Had to post the original, based on the great Robert E. Howard story “A witch shall be born” I always thought the comic book cover version of “bondage” was not correct, they were merely people tied up. But it is a selling point.

on lookers torturing I’d guess. If someone isn’t getting their jollies I wouldn’t call it bondage. I’d guess, hypothetically speaking.

Would a cover of an elderly 007 qualify as a BondAged cover?

The typical “bondage” cover usually features a female who has been tied up ( the ones I’ve seen and come to mind) or the typical damsel in distress. I don’t think it’s gender specific for definition, but rather majority or lack of male characters in said “bondage”.

It could be, but where I sound like an idiot it’s true, (not the ball gag). Definition of bondage; state of being a slave or tied up and tortured by another. Hence not a solo cover.

I would guess that historically it's been mostly women tied up and the few male bondage have slipped through un-noted as collectors are likely looking for the female bondage (pervs!!) - hence it is noted

I mean back in the day wasn't Wonder Woman's greatest weakness to be tied up by a man? If this were to happen, she would lose her superpowers and become helpless? so just about every other WW cover was some sort of bondage cover!!

@KatKomics The whole bondage thing isn't my cup of tea but the movie was interesting on the background of Wonder Woman.

I think the Bondage thing has lived past it's meaningfulness. Back in the days of SOTI it meant something to differentiate covers that had bondage. It meant they were "fringe" and more adult oriented than the typical comic probably. They were considered vice-like and different.

To some extent. On a related note, I've never been a big fan of the ball gag... so much slobber.

That carried over as a device plot to other media as well. In the Thundarr the Barbariann cartoons, Ariel couldn't work her magic if her wrists were bond.

Yup. And it did result in a number of WW bondage covers. Gets a little tiresome. Why can't we have, like... "O"-face covers or something instead, so at least folks are having a good time?
