Help me decide what to slab?16359

Collector KMiracleman private msg quote post Address this user
Hello Forum Hivemind,
I'm attending C2E2 and I wanted to seek some advice about what to get slabbed. Here's a preliminary list I've made with my estimated possible grade. Let me know if y'all think I need to eliminate some and give your reason(s):

1. Stray Dogs #1 (9.6-9.8)
2. Swamp Thing #1 (2021 series Mattina cover)(9.6 - 9.8)
3. Amazing Spider-Man #55A (2018 series)this one I'm going back and forth over..are there too many of these already graded in higher grades?
4. Carnage: Mind Bomb (9.6-9.8)
5. Strange Academy #1 (Variant Skottie cover) (9.6-9.8)
6. Nice House on the Lake #1 (variant cover) (9.6-9.8)
7. Web of Spider-Man #1 (1985) (9.2-9.4)
8. ASM #298 (1963 series) (9.0-9.2)
9. ASM #50 (1963 series) (4.0-5.0)
10. Lobo #1 (four issue mini 1990) (9.6-9.8)
11. Batman #404 (1939 series) (9.0-9.2)
12. TMNT Last Ronin #1 (Eastman cover) (9.8) also going back and forth on this one - looks like tons have already been graded.

thanks in advance

None of these book are particularly rare or hard to get even in higher grades. I would say go with what appeals most to you, and you would most enjoy having graded

is the amazing spiderman 55.a a first print?

but ive seen stray dogs and strange academy are popular.

Batman #404 is the first part of an iconic storyline.

last ronin is one of those that could increase

Id go with one of those

i agree. the first (and only) comic I submitted to be graded wasnt the one that was worth the most. its still worth a good ammount but chose because it appealed to me more

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
@KMiracleman I'd send all of them in except the Batman #404. The great thing about CBCS is that you can select individual grade screens for each book and there is no minimum submission to use the grade screening service. I would select a 9.8 grade screen for the following:

1. Stray Dogs #1 (9.6-9.8)
2. Swamp Thing #1 (2021 series Mattina cover)(9.6 - 9.8)
3. Amazing Spider-Man #55A (2018 series)this one I'm going back and forth over..are there too many of these already graded in higher grades?
4. Carnage: Mind Bomb (9.6-9.8)
5. Strange Academy #1 (Variant Skottie cover) (9.6-9.8)
6. Nice House on the Lake #1 (variant cover) (9.6-9.8)
10. Lobo #1 (four issue mini 1990) (9.6-9.8)

Maybe a 9.4 screen for the Web of Spider-Man #1 and no grade screen for the other Spider-Man boooks.

Also, don't send The Last Ronin in. CBCS still can't grade those sized comics, but I'm sure they'd tell you that at the convention. If anything, I suggest finding more comics to submit, maybe even something you purchase at the con. Good luck with the grades.

Totally agree with this. Add whatever else that you, personally, would like to see slabbed.

For the TMNT, though, I might consider holding onto that for the CGC mail-in signing with Eastman in January, but that's provided you want to have it signed at all.

Personally I would do ASM 50, ASM 298 and stray dogs 1. TMNT cannot be done by cbcs right now as they dont do magazine size but they said are coming

Grade what you want protected. Doesn't matter what we say.
And if it's that Last Ronin, you'll have to do it at CGC.
CBCS doesn't grade books that size.

Yes - the #55 is the first print, but not the virgin edition variant.

Thanks for the heads up on Last Ronin; I already have an Eastman sig/remarque on my TMNT #4 (original series), so I won't be shelling out for another. Yes, I've used the CBCS grade screen before and even though it adds another few eons to the already eons-long turnaround time, I will use it again.

@KMiracleman grade screen doesn't add any time to TAT. You wait through the normal grading TAT then they grade it and either encapsulate or not.

Grade what you plan to sell

There are much more affordable ways to “protect” comic books that don’t involve shipping your books off for a year.
