Hi guys! Long time collector. I’ve got nice stuff I want slabbed as I’m getting close to retirement. I’ve been really (REALLY!) considering moving over to cbcs even though I’ve never run into any problems with cgc. I feel cgc has gotten way too big to adequately manage their TAT’s or even quality control. My buddies and I think they give grades away to regular clients and arbitrarily grade some books way to harshly for corner rubs.

What is cgc and CBCS current TAT’s on modern and regular slabbed pre-1975 books? Hard to find this info elsewhere.

Thanks in advance! I’m getting ready to send 200 books and I’ve never submitted more than a couple books.
All my best!
PJ

Whatever TAT is stated, please keep in mind that they are best guess / best effort. While both companies are struggling with TAT, if you go in with realization that it's going to be a while and you need to be patient, your wait will be less agonizing.

Get ready to greatly expand upon your perception/definition of "approximate" when wondering what the actual TAT is.

I'll leave it at that.

Doesn't matter who you send your books to at the moment considering that the industry has exploded! Patience is key at the moment... I choose Cbcs strictly because the President of the company is a cool cat and enjoys doing what he does... Not many company leaders take the time to hang out in the forum with their customers... But he does...

I’ve definitely picked up that CBCs is far better in every way. Kiddies don’t like the label, and that’s it. Far better encapsulation and grading from CBCS is what we’re after. But resale does matter. I ran numbers and on 200 books cgc is is $2500 MORE.

And what I meant by TAT’s is what is a best guess if I sent a batch of post 1975 and another batch of pre 1975. Just rough rough guess. I’m not anxious for the books to come back as much as I am anxious to dump a few into sales before they collapse. Pre Christmas selling is definitely hotter than other times of the year.

Thanks guys again! Very appreciative

@PJsStudio It really depends on what tier you'd submit them at and whether or not you'll pay for the fast pass. I'm hearing the 2-Day modern tier is actually going pretty quickly but standard Modern and Expanded submissions are a mystery. The TAT estimate right now for the slower tiers is 25 weeks but I'm at 26 weeks and my TAT was supposed to be 17. So take that for what it's worth.

I'll selfishly ask you NOT to submit 200 books, especially at the faster tiers. Those large submissions are what's holding up my books from being graded. You might actually be doing yourself a disservice if you submit a bunch in the 2-day modern tier and the rest in a slower tier. Your own books will hold up your own books!

I personally would hold off on submitting anything to either company right now until they can get a handle on their backlog. You can submit books now and hope they come back in 6 months, or wait 6 months and hope things have calmed down by then. I'm not going to continue to support them until they show some kind of improvement to their service or at the very least, figure out a way to give us a clear idea of what we should expect when submitting books. The fact that you came here for answers is very telling.

Absolutely. Love your comment STom. I would only submit the books at regular return (26+ weeks) it’s too many books to demand them back and pay extra. It would feel selfish. The reason I want to submit a bunch is so when I get them back I can then sell or store. I have kids. Selling a ASM 129 8.5 is not necessary. Selling a War of the bounty hunters virgin variant 9.8 IS a priority. Silver and bronze ain’t going down anytime soon, and those are my lions share.

But cgc raising their prices is not what has driven me further away. It’s the sh—show. What bugs me is the lack of interest on CBCs books on ebay. It makes no sense! Far superior quality control, grading, and billing(!) CGC is like a nightclub where the bouncers are in the fight and the bartenders are on tik-tok.

If they keep grabbing graders off the street who don’t notice detached covers or give dead 9.8’s a casual 9.4 then I’m really not interested. I’ve got some badass s#%t that I don’t want CGC losing! (Which I hear is way more common than people care to believe). & That’s just the tip of the iceberg of complaints about them.

I hear not one gd complaint about cbcs except for their sleek labels that people think are lame. (I love the sleek simple design more now than ever.) in no time cbcs will be just as sought after if they keep up the good work.

Again, just my $.02

The tide is slowly turning on the interest in CBCS books. I've noticed more and more big sellers switching. Reece's Rare Comics seems to be selling many, many more CBCS books than ever before. Comic Warehouse seems to be almost exclusively CBCS. We need more early Bronze and Silver books in nice CBCS slabs. I'm always actively looking for CBCS books on eBay and it's mostly Modern and Copper age.

Given that CBCS has a superior product (both the slab and the more consistent grading) can't be ignored by the market for much longer. Particularly now that CGC has raised their prices twice recently. Pay more for a inferior product? No thanks.

Today I picked up my order that I submitted on June 9th 2021. I have three other orders from June 3rd, 4th and 14th, that I'm waiting on. June 9th 2021 to February 17th 2022 was my TAT for that order. This leaves me with two older orders and one more recent. I guess that means that TAT "varies".

So about 36 weeks right? Was that for just modern? Pressing or VSP?

8 months without pressing. You don't have to split modern and pre-modern.

Press pass which should have not been a problem since they all came from a company that guarantees 9.8 or better books, and they do.

Where do you buy from that guarantees 9.8 or better?

That was my first thought...and then he said they sent back a comics he's sure wasn't actually his so I'm more interested in which company to avoid.

no the comic in question was one from my personal collection that I bought when it first came out way back in 1972, but even then I knew to board and bag and store. this was not a book bought from a company or seller. came off the ole spin racks.

Nope, straight Expanded submission of two books. No signature verification, no pressing, no extras, just send and wait. And my apologies, that should read received at CBCS on 8/12/2021.

Sounds like you're still going to be far over the estimated tat of 25 weeks. Labeling/encapsulation/shipping takes forever. I believe my books were graded over two months ago and are still waiting in labels.

Yup, it's the bottleneck after grading that these kind folks need the most help with. It's probably why the job description for Production Associate basically reads, "You'll be doing encapsulation."
