10 months ago I put up this thread asking about spending $1,500 for a friend, with combination of Display and Investment in mind. Looks like some of the ideas did pretty well from the investment standpoint:

It's been a crazy year.

Post from 10 months ago:

Amazing Spiderman #300 9.6 is averaging $1,350 on Go Collect.
Star Wars #1 9.6 is averaging $850.
Detective Comics #359 7.5 is averaging $1,400.
Avengers #4 5.5 averaging $1,500.
Captain America #100 9.2 averaging $1,350.

Go Collect FMV currently:

Amazing Spider-Man #300 9.6 -- 90 day average sale is $2,028.00.
Star Wars #1 9.6 - 90 day average sales is $1,146.00.
Detective Comics #359 7.5 - 90 day average sales is $2,950.00.
Avengers #4 5.5 - 90 day average sales is $3,120.00.
Captain America #100 9.2 - They don't have 90 day average sales for this one. 1 year average sales is $1,908.00 and current FMV is $2,350.00. Last one on Ebay (according to Go Collect) sold for $2,499.99.

Avengers and Batgril win the day. Worst pick of my bunch was Star Wars. It gained in value, so it's not a bad call but it's nothing compared to the others.

@lawguy1977 Yeah, you had very timely picks. I noticed that when I was going through the thread.

@EbayMafia forgot about this, cool update. I'm happy with my tmnt #1 4th print 9.8, tod #13 9.6 and I flipped a wwbn 33 8.0 for a few hundred dollar profit when I sold it for $800 and I also picked up a raw copy in the fn range.

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
I kept mine a secret. But mine are long ball so while there was some appreciation, it wouldn’t even compare to some of the other choices in the thread.

@Bronte thanks!

I may have been wrong 10 months ago about GSX 1. Could you have bought this book for $1500 in 5.0/5.5 back in Jan/Feb?

I didn't really have my own recommendations but in the thread I agreed with something along the lines of House of Secrets 92 plus Cap 100 plus Iron Man #1. Assuming $500 for each:

House of Secrets would have had to settle for 2.0 at $500, now selling for approximately $650-$700, not great.
Iron Man #1 $500 would get a 5.0 in February, now selling for $650ish
Captain America 100: 7.0 was around $450 in February, latest sales $500-$550

None of these have really increased enough to cover sales taxes and transaction costs.

@flanders I agreed with the Werewolf 33 but only because I think it's one of the all-time great comic covers. I never imagined it would run up in price this much in 10 months. Back when CBCS first opened I sent them a nice looking copy and it came back 8.5 with color touch. I'm so glad it had color touch, otherwise I would have sold it years ago for a hundred bucks. Because of the color touch I still have it to display.

@EbayMafia it looks like I bought it for $285 w/shipping from Reeces Rare Comics in February and sold it for $675 on Ebay in April. I remember posting in the sell or hold thread and getting some good advice. The way I look at it, I got a WWBN #33 FN- for free and an extra $100 on top of that, which can be used for pressing and grading at some point.

Amazing Spider-Man 300 in 9.6, modern book and hot but will still probably appreciate.
Amazing Spider-Man 15 in 6.0/6.5, older book to look classy and should appreciate soon if Kraven actually gets that movie.

Detective Comics 359 in 7.5, doesn't center Batman but is obviously relevant, and should take off whenever Batgirl makes it into a movie that doesn't have George Clooney.
Batman 66 in 6.5/7.0, a random old issue but with a Joker cover that would prompt some conversations.

I don't know Superman keys all that well. Maybe Superman 25 in 8.5 for something old and interesting?

For Avengers, I like the suggestion of Avengers 4 in 6ish. The value is Cap-centric, but the cover itself has the key characters.

Looks like I borrowed/agreed with the ASM300 and TEC359, so I can't take credit for those. I didn't put prices for the ASM15 or Batman 66, but gocollect has the ASM at $2700 now and Batman maybe around $1700-$2000, so those have done ok. I would guess that most keys you would drop $1500 on have gone up at least a little since February. The market was heating up then but hadn't hit a full boil yet.
