The ones with cyclops and Wolverine on cover have the omega red pinup from my understanding.

There are five covers, or ten if you include newsstand and direct editions. You can tell newsstand from direct by looking for a barcode on the front or back cover; if it has one, it's a newsstand. Otherwise it has a 50 years of Captain America box and is a direct. Four of the covers have different parts of the overall picture of the X-Men and Magneto. Using mycomicshop's labeling, cover A has Beast, Storm, etc.; cover B has Colossus, Psylocke, etc.; cover C has Cyclops, Wolverine, and Iceman; and cover D has Magneto. Cover E is the 'deluxe' version with the fold-out cover that has the whole picture, with the same front cover as D. You can also tell D and E apart (besides the foldout) because D has sort of a brownish rock background and E has a grey rock background. The inside of each should also be slightly different, but just in the pin-up. E has all of them, D has an upcoming villains pin-up, and so on. But the story is the same in all of them. If you need to know the pin-ups specifically, I can dig my copies out. |

One more thing, issues A-D had a cover price of $1.50, the deluxe addition (E) was $3.95.

The gatefold has Wolverine with both claws extended while the regular has one set of claws extended so as to presumably not poke Cap's head. |

I remember the shop I worked in when this came out, sitting there making up and heat sealing bags of all the cover versions, and for x force 1 as well. fun fun

@Studley_Dudley - never noticed that. Why the interest in this book anyway?? I have 1 of each cover plus the deluxe (with cheese!) - wasn't the print run just huge on these? |

My guess is that it will be hyped as a first appearance if #4 somehow becomes a hot commodity, which it shouldn't because there are a literal f*** ton of these books out in the world. |

There are at least two versions with the Omega red art included, and my opinion is yes, first appearance, albeit cameo. If you consider one panel at the end of Jimmy olsen 134 the first Darkseid, and one panel at the end of Incredible hulk 180 as the first Wolverine, then you have to accept that one panel in x men 1 is a first albeit cameo appearance. Alot of people do not like that because they have hoarded piles of x men 4 and 5 for that reason. Of course then the argument is that the panel for Omega red was not within the context of a storyline...so who really knows? |

It's more an ad than a panel, but whatevs. The first appearance discussion isn't consistent. And in this case I have all of them, so I don't have to feel salty.

Pretty sure there are many others with boxes of these (should ask my LCS - I know they have about 80 Wolverine #1 from the ongoing series) |
