Grading Help Needed

Help--Grade reduction due to damage16292

Collector tonyz58 private msg quote post Address this user
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving..Below you'll see 4 books returned damaged from outside pressing. I've sent them for grading but would like to get your opinion as to what you think the daamage will cost me in point reduction. (ex. .5, 1, 1.5 etc) If the before is a 5 what would the after be? I appreciate your input. It looks like the after pictures came out first ASM6 lower left,,ASM13 lower staple,,FF50 lower left corner and FF52 top left corner...Thanks.

You need to make others aware.
He's taking money to do something he clearly doesn't know how to do.

Im new to the idea of pressing and I even can tell thats a super bad press. let others know. warn them. if it was 1 issue....mistakes but 4!

@power_struggle55

Exactly. After the first one, presser should have known something was wrong. No quality control before moving on to the next one? May have even pressed them all at once.

I have posted this before but the before/after photos show their work approach. Seems like they are pretty honest!

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
@tonyz58 - You should probably send in to CBCS with a press screen. If @SteveRicketts can rehabilitate, he will if great likelihood of problems persisting, they will forego pressing.

@Davethebrave let's see if anyone else picks up on it the second time. Maybe they have a small press and fold it in half.

Not sure if CBCS pressing can help.

Captain is right. Got this guy from Gocollect. I'm just am old collector so my choices are limited to what I get off the web via youtube videos etc. Gocollect recommended Josh Avery,Dee,Basement and Hero restoration,,all of whom did good work...And John from CB detailing warned me not to press 3 of the books I sent him to prevent further damage...Good guy..So how else to vette future pressers? I like CBCS but they are swamped. I've used them B4 and will do so again but now pressing adds another 8 months ..So I go outside to relieve the pressure. many thanks to you all..

Is it within the possibilty he switched up your books with others and kept the nicer ones you had? A few of those look like they arent even the same book

@Darkseid_of_town they are definitely the same books

Maybe my vision (or screen) is just a bit better? In fairness, for much of my life I had 20/15 vision ;-)

Took me about 5 seconds to catch distinct marks on all the books that would be difficult (and pointless) to forge.

I actually thought the same thing. Upon further examination; they are the same books. There are condition issues that would be difficult to duplicate (I don’t think impossible). The ASM 6 for example has dust shadows, water damage and a date stamp that match up. maybe a self respecting crook would send you a nicer looking replica instead to keep you coming back😂

BTW - it is a very different thing to call out a failed service that may have caused damage (and was refunded) vs. alleging fraud and/or theft.

Very different.

If I take my vehicle to the car wash and it rips off the side mirrors, I’m gonna want more than the $9.99 wash fee back.

exactly. they de-valued the comic.

he had:
1st appearance of black panther
1st appearance of Lizard
1st appearance of mysterio

all valuable especially with the movies. silver surfer one isnt 1st appearance but its still old so worth money.

this could be something you could take to small claims court. the value on those 3 1st appearances could warrent it. its not a matter of letting the world know....and way more money then just your money back. you might have had a 7.0 and made one a 4.5 (could be wrong but still) devaluing greatly

write nasty reviews to let the world know

pre screen the grades currently.

show an expert before images, ask based on the cover what grade could be

check value of pre screen grade and expert grade.

tell the presser to give the difference plus refund....or you'll sue

or maybe yours is worse...in fairness for much of my life I had the ability to understand what i am seeing. If it took you five seconds, you really missed the entire point honestly.

Right but then I was not talking about those, I am more focused on things I see with the FF books in particular.

You're 100% correct. They're the same books.

I guess someone could go find the same issue, with the same exact blunt corners, exact spine ticks, exact tears and exact wrinkles and swap them out but what are the odds for all 4 books?

2 or 3? ...easy.
But all 4 ?
