I was just wondering if anyone else had the Mac OS Comic Collector desk top? I was grandfathered in and continued using the program. It's getting very close to becoming obsolete and being phased out. I'm really bummed that I'm more or less being forced to go to the web based Comic Connect.

So here's the question, has anyone made the switch and comparatively how do you like it?

There’s a CLZ Comics group on Facebook that may also help you with that question if you need it.

@OGJackster I switched to the web base last year and I am very satisfied.

I have 8k+ in my list and find it very easy to add multiple books in a series.

I no longer have to worry about updating the program every time they upgrade.

I know that they are having a sale on all programs this coming Tuesday, 22 November with 33% off sale.

Maybe they just like me better. Nah, that's not it. BPaxson002 private msg quote post Address this user
I am guessing there will come a time when the Windows version will be abandoned. I currently use the android and Windows. When I started out, I used the Win more and more than the Android. However, oddly enough, now the GoCollect issue is ended I use the Android more. I never use the web based at all.

@Punfan I've been all over it and chatting with Alwin. His position seems to be, "SWITCH, it's more money for me!"

What’s pushing the Mac version towards obsolescence? I’m grandfathered into the Windows version

There are not enough users of Mac OS to support using the resources to keep it up to date. I don't even think the Mac got the new Key upgrade.

As far as I can tell. There isn't a Comic Collector for Mac that can be downloaded any more. I don't know the reason other than a push to get everyone on the web based plan.

I'm grandfathered in the Mac Desktop. Like I said, it looks like they're phasing it out. Here's the last email I got from CLZ...

CLZ Alwin here. Today, a quick heads up for something I know many of you are waiting for: our yearly CLZ Black Friday Sale! Yes, it will happen again this year :-)

Next week, we will give you a nice 33% discount deal on renewing your existing software AND on subscribing to extra products:

The Sale will start on Tuesday next week, November 23 ...
... will run on through Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday itself.
... then will end on Cyber Monday, November 29, 23:59 EST.

CLZ Black Friday Sale: 33% discount on all subscriptions
The Black Friday deal is the same for all available products:
** 33% discount on the "Pay Yearly" option ** :

for each of the 5 "Collector" desktop programs for Windows
for each of the 5 "Connect" web-based programs
for each of the 5 "CLZ" mobile apps
Here's some ways you can use the Black Friday Sale:

1. Renew/extend the subscription of your *existing* product(s)
Obviously, the Black Friday Sale is an excellent way to extend the subscriptions for your current products. Or, even better, to revive the product(s) for which your subscription(s) have expired!

2. Subscribe to an *extra* "add-on" product for your collection
Maybe you want to start using the CLZ mobile app as a companion to your desktop or Connect software? Or if you are currently only using the mobile app, consider adding the Connect web-based software for managing your collection on your big screen computer.

3. Start cataloging your *other* collections
For example, if you are currently cataloging your comics only, this is your chance to start cataloging your movies or games. Remember that at Collectorz.com we have software for cataloging movies, books, music, comics and video games.

4. Still using your CLZ mobile app in grandfathered mode?

Then subscribe to get access to the premium online services:

• for CLZ Comics: get access to
the new key comic info from Core
the Missing Comics tool
the Pull List tab in the Add Comics screen.
• for CLZ Movies: get access to
daily updates to the IMDb Ratings and Votes
the Add from IMDb tab in the Add Movies screen
automatic audience ratings from Core (MPAA, BBFC, etc..)
• for CLZ Games: get access to:
adding hardware from Core
the Add by Platform tab in the Add Games screen
• for CLZ Books / CLZ Music: no extra premium online services available, but feel free to subscribe anyway to support our work on the app, CLZ Core and CLZ Cloud :-)

@BPaxson002 Thanks for this, I must have deleted it without reading it back in February. I guess that makes up my mind. Web based it is.

@OGJackster

Like I said, it is no longer worth commiting recourses to a shrinking amount of users. I am sure in the not so distant future, the Windows version will follow and be shut down as well. Though Microsoft is a tad bit more open on their code than Apple is.
