GoCollect or Covrprice? (Or....?)16230

I AM... THE Bat-Manuel MurrayC private msg quote post Address this user
I am debating on getting a subscription with either GoCollect or Covrprice.

GoCollect has a lot of data and is more popular, but Covrprice has data for raw books as well and their subscription is cheaper.

from my understanding go collect is highly unreliable for pricing. But a downside to Covrprice is they don't have an app which would be so handy...

I had both, then after the interface change I cancelled my Gocollect. If you are tracking your PC I like Covrprice better and they have a very nice way of submitting missing books and variants for addition.

I have subscriptions to both GoCollect and CovrPrice, and I'm being honest when I say that I'm seriously considering cancelling GoCollect. They used to be ideal for getting a quick value estimate for anything. So easy to use and the search function actually worked pretty well. As I'm sure you heard, they underwent some radical changes, and I am forced to agree with the majority opinion that the changes are not good. It's now a nightmare to use, doesn't have anywhere near the amount of information that it previously did, and the search function is now a disaster. CovrPrice, on the other hand, mines its info from the same places that GoCollect does (actual sales from a variety of websites and auction houses), but now has the huge advantage of presenting that information in a way that can easily be read. Another advantage for CovrPrice is that they also present information on raw sales, and that can be really useful. I also really like their collection management system. There are other websites that do just as well, but few that have the same perks as CovrPrice.

I only used Go Collect through CLZ, til they canceled the agreement. I went and looked at CovrPrice and their interface is massively screwy. More graphics than needed. Poor screen layout and entering books takes way too many clicks. Their data handling seems good, but I am not spending 10 clicks per book to enter my collection.

What are you doing that it takes 10 clicks? I max out at six, and that's just for the first issue in a series. For the rest of that series, it takes fewer. I definitely agree, though, that fewer graphics would be very nice. It would contribute to tightening up the layout as well.

I've stopped visiting the GoCollect site and for whatever reason I'm not a fan of the Covrprice one either.

I track my books in excel

Not entirely sure why people want to track on an app??? is it to also track FMV? if so I also don't really care about that - most of my books will stay with me until I sell them or I die - If I sell I can research prices per issue then - just over 9,000 books - no way in H- E -double hockey sticks am I entering than manually into any system.

I continue to begrudgingly use GoCollect since the update. This is only a result of purchasing an annual plan shortly before the update was announced. I am finding more aspects of the updated site that add value, but it is currently a design mess that is frustrating to use. AND more importantly I don't trust the data. Check out the most recent three sales of ASM annual #1. One of them is an eBay sale for graded comic bags that registered as a 1.0 sale. The other two are both listed as 5.0 sales, but they are in fact a 3.0 and a 4.5. I see errors like that all the time. That is bound to corrupt the FMV calculations.

Eventually I think I will move to GPA, but I have heard they also have some issues.

Is anyone familiar with how Covrprice (or any other options) avoided the problem that GoCollect had? My understanding was that some change with the eBay API broke their input system, but maybe that was wrong. How is Covrprice getting proper eBay sales and avoiding issues like @Cerebus3000 described?

I'm surprised no mention of GPAnalysis in the discussion. Of late I have all three open. I like how Covrprice let's you click thru a series in order without searching or barely moving. I like how GoCollect has artist, date, etc all on one page, but both sites seem to have data collection problems as indicated above. GP seems to have the oldest and most complete sales data, and so far I have not found data issues like I found on the other two sites, but the lack of graphics is disappointing.

Have others found data issues at GP as well?

I just finished logging about 4000 books onto covrprice. I found it much easier to use than Go collect especially after the change. I like how it has the option for raw, graded, raw signed and graded signed. I also like each series layout of the book covers and variants. Cons are the price tracker for graded books doesn't list what 3rd party the book is and if its sig series or not. As you know that is a huge difference in price. Another is still have to cross check the prices over gocollect and Ebay etc as it can be way off sometimes especially on a unpopular titles.

I did the free join for what, 10 days? I decided to try my two recent Ebay purchases: Airboy Vol.3 #9 and Four Color Series 2, #12 (Bambi).

The Airboy search was a disaster. It looked like a random search on the issues with no idea on how to order them. I simply gave up on that.

Four Color was 10 clicks from start to finish, starting with add to collection. Now there may have been a way to add more than one book per series, but by that time I was no longer interested.

I will give CP kudos for fast raw prices. It found what I had paid on Ebay for the Bambi.

@BPaxson002 I'll give you that. Airboy is a pain as it has that funky numbering system that starts a new volume every year.

I couldn't agree more. I just can't figure out how to navigate it. In the past I kept multiple lists and used them as a tracking system for where my books are in the selling process or physical location. Now it's just maddening even to enter books.

Now I understand!! YES, those are drag, and I have an Airboy (v8#2) and a couple Four Color, too. They really did suck to find. Fortunately, once they're entered, you're done with it and you just look them up under My Collection. I will say, though, if anyone is a G.A. Airboy collector, they will find CovrPrice to be a bit frustrating. My issue with them is entering Spider-Man one-shots (O.M.G.), but again, once I've found the book and entered it, I can always find it again.

I contacted them over this because I have a few signed & numbered limited edition books that I tried to add to CovrPrice (they have a very easy way to add to the website). They said that they don't track signatures. You have the option to list books in My Collection as having signatures, but they don't track them. They're too inconsistent and not quantifiable: one signature, multiple signatures, sketch, remarque, quality of all the above, etc., etc.

Hi folks, I know I'm a bit of an outlier here, in that I want to get rid of my comics, not keep track of anything (or any of the other functions the various sites offer). Knowing that this is a moving target as websites change (often for the worse)- at this point in time, and setting aside design issues or ease of use, which one do you think is likely to have the most accurate up-to-date previous sales information? I've already used gocollect, which seemed fine in helping me determine prices for my GA books. But at some point I'll be moving forward and selling some ECs and silver age.

@dennisqdw I'm getting rid of most of my books as well, but because I have ten of thousands of books, it's going to take some time. I'm using CovrPrice to keep track of my pricier books for (1) insurance purposes, (2) tax purposes, and (3) as a tool to assist me in determining which books to slab and when. Personally, I am switching to using CovrPrice more and more because I question the changes that GoCollect has made. It's tough with G.A. books regardless, though, because you have so few data points to work with. Best of luck.

@Byrdibyrd Thanx, that's just what I needed to know. I'll check CovrPrice out soon. It's going to take me a long time too, although I sadly sold off most of my silver age books in the mid 80s, just before prices started going up.

Does that ever sound familiar! I sold mine off around then, too, because I was paying for college. I'm glad I have my degree, but I look back at how much I could get for those books now and I kinda wish I had gone into debt because if I were to sell those books off now I could not only pay off my debt + interest, but my freakin' mortgage, too!

Now while I have a measly 700 or so books in my PC, I am not readding them to CP and not interested in becoming a unlimited member of CP up have them upload my CLZ file for me.

@BPaxson002 Nothing wrong with preferring CLZ. It has excellent collection management, too. It's just a shame that GoCollect isn't playing ball with them anymore. I'm hoping they can find someone else more cooperative.

I don't use them for collection management because I found it too clunky to add books. Click 'add' then leave the page to adjust condition, and then whether or not it's raw/graded is on yet another page, etc. It's become one of my go-to's for values since GoCollect went south, though.
