Took a chance on this...will it ever be a rectangle again?16178

Masculinity takes a holiday. EbayMafia private msg quote post Address this user
I got a notification from MCS today that this was in stock as a 3.0, went ahead and grabbed it. It's a book that I've admired for years but never pulled the trigger on. I'm sure it will have a massive crease, but will it ever be displayable in it's original rectangle shape?

I would bet 100% with a press it will be a rectangle again. Super cool book!!

Easy to press that out...if you know what to do. Should be fine.

Thanks, for me it's one of those "displayable cover" books we were talking about last night. I don't think the 1st appearance of Haunted Tank is all that significant in the future of the DC universe. But it's a cover that catches your eye every time once you know the book has some significance. I guess the good news is that I can assume it has "never been pressed!". lol.

This should give you some hope. Find a good person to press it. This one took me about 30 minutes or one beer, and graded out 9.8. I'm sure a competent pro could get that out without doing any damage.

Interesting question considering modern times and intrigue...a haunted tank led by the spirit Jeb Stuart, a confederate general who in the storyline is portrayed heroically or sympathetically.I used to read haunted tank stories as a kid myself so it does make me curious if modern events are hurting or helping this particular issue

I was looking forward to a wrecked angle. I agree with the others, it should press well.

Is the spine torn at the top of the angle next to the staple?

It will be in interesting fix but it is going to take a good deal of time and multiple steps.

But how cool would it be to use that premise to apply a modern twist that plays on outdated concepts of war and racism? Jeb Stuart could begin as a bigot and a warmonger (I don't actually know whether he was either) but slowly, through experiences and over time, he changes his views. Someone much more creative than I am might be able to make that work.

Oh I completely agree, this character given todays sensitivities could easily be a major new storyline or arc, and have new life entirely due to the very elements you offer. Handled correctly it would be a stunning story...or given the feeling people are offering today a complete diaster, hard to foresee is the future with the force !

Congrads, I've had it on my MCS want list for a while. Missed that alert and yeah, that is a solid DC war key...books with one big pressable defect and nice page quality are also the better books to buy IMO.

Solid 4.0 to 5.0 once humidified & pressed.

And yeah, DC war keys are def long term holds. No way in hell that sgt rock, as well as the haunted tank and others like lady blackhawk, won't eventually get the movie or show treatment.

I'd suggest not trying to red it/open it past checking the c-fold intil it's been pressed as the bend is very close to the bottom stapl.

Page quality is a MF'er on mid 50's DC's, as I'm sure you know, from what I see, I'd bet you get an off-white pgs. designation, whch is what you want. Cream-off-white usually means pretty heavy edge oxidation on the spine and edges, this is true for both CBCS and CGC slabs.

Fun Fact about silver age book PQD's:

Early SA Marvels (pre-1965 especially) are also to be avoided in CR to OW pages slabs...there's an old thread on the CGC forum where a guy subbed his ASM #14 CGC Cream-Off-white pages slab (forget the grade but it was IIRC at least a CGC 6.0) for a CPR to CCS and the cover popped loose at one of the staples during the press at CCS, can't remember how it turned out but there's a lengthy thread over there on it, somewhere.

Eh, definitely not. Can't tell if you're joking or not..

That book needs to be properly humidified and pressed in a heat press.

My favorite is the 30 minutes or one beer and I have a 9.8. I'm not sure what's more comical, "30 minutes", or Bud Light Lime is a "beer".
