Has anybody had any experience with CBCS Canada? Has anybody here ever shipped to the Canadian location? I am interested in what the turnaround times are. How do they compare to books shipped straight to Dallas? Has anybody had any experience using the coupons on the Canadian end? There are representations on the CBCS Canada portion of the website in regards to turnaround times, service, etc. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Before Covid hit, they were pretty good....the few orders I've submitted since have been very hit or miss. One was smooth, the other took an additional 4 weeks to arrive in Dallas compared to mailing directly. This could be a representation of CBCS Canada or a representation of CBCS received backlog.

Either way, Canada post gives a claim window on packages, and even shipping directly to Dallas right now puts me outside that window to make a claim when the package is marked as received. Going via Canada adds even more to this wait, but you save a few bucks...

I am sure you are about to get flooded with responses. I have indeed used the Canadian location. And turnaround times are on the order of 6-7 months. The vast majority of this time is your books sitting in an Oakville storage until someone (Steve Paulus) sends them to Dallas in bulk. You can expect your books to sit there for up to three months, during which time your status will just be "submitted" and you will get no further information no matter how hard you dig for it. You will just have to place blind trust in the system. Once they do, eventually, go to Dallas then things go rather quickly. A few weeks at most. Then your books get Fed-Exed to Oakville. Which has always struck me as funny, because they rush them there via FedEx only to have them sit again for a month. Then they get FedExed to you.

The pros: You save on customs.
The cons: You have to have the patience of Jobe. You have to be okay with hearing nothing, ever, about the fate of your books. And....perhaps the biggest con, is that you do NOT get access to grader's notes. I would still love to know why my seemingly 9.2 Thor 337 scored a 5.0 with a checkmark.

And unless you live close to Oakville, you probably won't save money, just adds 2-4 months to each trip. I have 30 that have been shipping to Canada since September 22.Thry have no idea if the books are in Dallas, or on their way or in Oakville,

You may have to DM Jessie_O or one of the other moderators to get the grades updated on your dashboard - I've had to do that in the past because as you say - books in hand but no notification

for Canada it's a 2 part shipping...'shiptoCanada' is to Oakville then again it will ship to you- at that point the grades "should" show but often don't or there will be a delay at least as CBCS is I thihnk delayed in knowing when they shipped to you - hence books on your doorstep with no notifications

For what its worth, I used oakville, for 30 books, cbcs charged me $870 CDN after the exchange plus $30 to send from edmonton to oakville., it took around 5 months. I just payed for a submission direct to dallas.$730 CDN after exchange, plus $20 to ship it to Dallas. So I should be looking at a faster turnaround( I hope) and if customs dont tag me, it will be $150 cheaper to send directly to Dallas.

@Rongro yeah....Canada Post and mail in general in Canada sucks....depends where you are...for me it is worlds cheaper to send to CBCS Canada...although I just sent my next 16 books to Dallas just to save a few weeks....5 to 8 weeks to get from Oakville to Dallas is silly!!

Even if they do tag you, it'll only be $25 and more often than not you can get them to waive it.

@KatKomics Ya, Canada is a huge mailing mess. But wow, I will just send to Dallas and take my chances with the Border guys. Also I do have a Bronze account that i bought because no one could answer me if it gave a discount Using the Canada submissions. Of course it doesnt, so with the Bronze membership for this year, Dallas all the way for me.

@Huntergreene2 That is exactly what i think will happen. I will find out in a few months. But have never had customs on CGC or CBCS before so i think its worth the gamble

it will be more than $25 and they are cracking down on waiving these fees.

I don't think I'll be using CBCS Canada again.

After two submissions, I am getting some books back with horrible grades because there are a number of impact crunches on the corners of my books which were NOT there when I sent them to Oakville.

Either CBCS keeps dropping my books during the grading process, or, Oakville is tossing my packages around like Air Canada baggage handlers (I'm guessing it's the latter)

IF I decide to do another submission, I'll take close-up pictures of my books and FedEx them directly

@MurrayC they really need to get the CBCS staff back on site in Oakville - no idea if that is happening now with the boarder restrictions lifted

How are you getting your books to CBCS?

I've done two submissions through "CBCS Canada" via Oakville, and clearly some books were damaged.

Next time I will simply send them direct to CBCS in Texas via FedEx

So far I've done a 1/2 dozen or more through CBCS Canada with no issues - I just use Canada Post to get them to Oakville but then I could drop them off in person since they are onlt 30 minutes or so away - maybe it was Canada Post (or other) messing up the books?

The damage is very likely not coming from CBCS but more likely from your delivery service provider. A comics grading company will handle your books with care. How did you pack your books? I've sent over a dozen packages to Oakville and Texas and I've never had books damaged. I pack them as if they're going to war...a box in a box with tons of bubble wrap surrounding very rigid cardboard encasing my books.
